TennAllie Posted June 12, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2012 The ship will be in Halifax from 8-5. I don't think we have time to drive to both Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove, so I'm wondering which would be the better destination. Thanks for any input! 6rugrats Posted June 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2012 I would choose Lunenburg. You can also go through Mahone Bay and Blue Rocks, which are very close by. Personally, I think Peggy's Cove is overrated.

Eat at the Fish Market. It overlooks the harbor and the seafood is wonderful.
pizzalady1 Posted June 12, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2012 We did both--high-tailed it out to Lunenburg, came back by Mahone Bay and did a quick stop at Peggy's Cove. We had no problem with time. If you go to Lunenburg, check out the ship builder for the new Blue Nose.

Personally, I think Peggy's Cove is overrated. There's not much to see or do at Peggy's Cove. It's good for a photo or two but that's about it. I'd choose Lunenburg and Mahone Bay too. TennAllie Posted June 13, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted June 13, 2012 Thanks everyone for your input. I was leaning towards going to Lunenburg because I, too, had heard that Peggy's Cove was quite crowded with bus tours. You've confirmed my thoughts. Just what I needed! maryann ns Posted June 13, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 13, 2012 I would agree with going to Lunenburg IF you have already explored Halifax. As others have said, you could go to Peggy's on the way back if you have time. There are fewer busses later in the day. Here is the route I would take: https://maps.google.ca/maps?saddr=Pier+21+National+Historic+Site,+Halifax,+NS&daddr=Lunenburg,+NS+to:44.42036,-64.35017+to:Mahone+Bay,+NS+to:Peggys+Cove,+NS+to:44.61468,-63.92567+to:Pier+21+National+Historic+Site,+Halifax,+NS&hl=en&ll=44.533717,-64.020081&spn=0.497298,1.352692&sll=44.5439,-63.99369&sspn=0.497215,1.352692&geocode=Fd4iqQIdpA42_CEtqR9BI6Wc1Q%3BFa0jpQIdjZIq_ClD0a4gwVtXSzHrTTCtT3o5Vg%3BFQjNpQIdJhgq_ClTNR3zvF5XSzHTZAkBOrKU7w%3BFcI9pgIdPJsp_Cn7Y_qvyl9XSzGf5BZFz_TFyg%3BFcnnpgIdIrIw_CnlsFTY6QJaSzFmhYBMEgaDaw%3BFRjEqAIdWpIw_ClV2mMA2PNZSzH5i8ZSO6sOrQ%3BFd4iqQIdpA42_CEtqR9BI6Wc1Q&oq=halifax+pie&mra=dpe&mrsp=2&sz=10&via=2,5&t=m&z=

There is a lot to see in Halifax. You could easily spend several days there. We did. DON

I don't think we have time to drive to both Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove, so I'm wondering which would be the better destination. Thanks for any input! Nancy Lunenburg!!! My suggestion would be to drive there by highway and return using the coastal route stopping along the way as you wish. Given an 8:30 a.m. start, you will have time to visit Peggy's Cove, but I wouldn't miss other interesting areas just to go there. I would choose returning to Halifax early and enjoying some of the points of interest in the city. Do get to the car rental location as early as possible. They are extremely slow and under staffed.
