Thank you

You will find that Victoria's downtown is quite small and compact so most of the pubs can be walked to except for a few where a $5 to $7 cab fare would be involved. Here is a list, the last two you would be wise to take a cab to:

I did it the first time there and had a blast. Second time just went down to Government St on my own and hit bars with people from CC. Turned out cheaper and just as fun. Can't go wrong though either way. Base it on the hours you'll be there.

We live in Victoria and you would be wasting your money doing an organized tour. Downtown is 10 minutes from the ship walking and is a really nice stroll. All do the above choices are excellent, especially the Irish Times and Bard and Banker. Spinnakers is great but you would need to take a cab. Another great spot for a cocktail or glass of wine is the Bengal Lounge in the Empress Hotel. Very classic British Empire feel to it. Enjoy!

You will dock at Ogden Point which is in the James Bay neighborhood, and there are two pubs closer than those downtown. Not nearly as beautiful as the other ones mentioned but if you want a more local experience search for the Bent Mast - an old house turned into a pub/restaurant. If you are lucky (or not!) you might see their ghost.

The other is the pub in the James Bay Inn on Government Street. You might think the decor is retro, but it is just original. Very friendly place with a decent beer selection and some good food.

You could hit both of these on your walk down town. And I agree with the others that Victoria is a very walkable city and you do not need an organized tour.

Another one downtown is Swans that I did not see on the earlier list, and then there is the Garrick's Head downtown, and if you want to make your walk into town a little longer walk along Dallas, then turn left on Cook street and try the Beagle Pub

And doing it on your own means you can stay as little or as long as you wish in each pub. You do not have to move on according to a tour schedule.
