Putterdude Posted June 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 15, 2012 You will find that Victoria's downtown is quite small and compact so most of the pubs can be walked to except for a few where a $5 to $7 cab fare would be involved. Here is a list, the last two you would be wise to take a cab to: http://darcyspub.ca/ http://www.irishtimespub.ca/ http://www.strathconahotel.com/TheStickyWicketPub.aspx http://www.bedfordregency.com/pub.htm http://www.bardandbanker.com/ http://www.canoebrewpub.com/ http://www.spinnakers.com/gastro-brewpub
Parvatiiv Posted June 15, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2012 Has anyone done the pub tour with Princess in Victoria? If so, what was your opinion please.Thank you I did it the first time there and had a blast. Second time just went down to Government St on my own and hit bars with people from CC. Turned out cheaper and just as fun. Can't go wrong though either way. Base it on the hours you'll be there.
Rare MicCanberra Posted June 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 15, 2012 So sorry, Canada. Didn't know about the one in Austrailia. I am sure there are even more Victoria's around the world. The Victoria in Australia is actually a State, that would make it one large pub crawl.:D

Downtown is 10 minutes from the ship walking and is a really nice stroll. All do the above choices are excellent, especially the Irish Times and Bard and Banker. Spinnakers is great but you would need to take a cab. Another great spot for a cocktail or glass of wine is the Bengal Lounge in the Empress Hotel. Very classic British Empire feel to it. Enjoy! krazyknit Posted January 29, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 29, 2013 I was wondering about the pub tour also. Anyone on the July 20 cruise out of Seattle?
IECalCruiser Posted January 29, 2013 #11 Share Posted January 29, 2013 We didn't do the Pub Tour when we were there in September but Princess has a shuttle bus for a nominal cost and it is easier than trying to walk at night. Several pubs are very close to the shuttle drop off point. I would skip the tour and DIY.
airheadfan Posted January 30, 2013 #12 Share Posted January 30, 2013 You will dock at Ogden Point which is in the James Bay neighborhood, and there are two pubs closer than those downtown. Not nearly as beautiful as the other ones mentioned but if you want a more local experience search for the Bent Mast - an old house turned into a pub/restaurant. If you are lucky (or not!) you might see their ghost. The other is the pub in the James Bay Inn on Government Street. You might think the decor is retro, but it is just original. Very friendly place with a decent beer selection and some good food. You could hit both of these on your walk down town. And I agree with the others that Victoria is a very walkable city and you do not need an organized tour. Another one downtown is Swans that I did not see on the earlier list, and then there is the Garrick's Head downtown, and if you want to make your walk into town a little longer walk along Dallas, then turn left on Cook street and try the Beagle Pub
caribill Posted January 30, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 30, 2013 And I agree with the others that Victoria is a very walkable city and you do not need an organized tour. And doing it on your own means you can stay as little or as long as you wish in each pub. You do not have to move on according to a tour schedule.
