Catching Amtrak from New York Port - time needed??

We are considering a Canada/New England Cruise - would taking a 12:30 train from Amtrak in New York be doable upon our return or do we need to allow more time? Anyone have past experience of time frames needed?

Definitely doable. I would contract with a car service to Penn Station.

Most definitely doable. We usually book the 11:02 a.m. silver service and we've always made it. However, we do get off early (but not self-help) and have a limo waiting for us.

Assuming that the ship is docked at Manhattan's West Side Pier 88/90 along the Hudson by 8 am and cleared for disembarkation, the express/self walk-off should be coming off the gangway as early as 8:45 am or even 8:30 am and the rest by priority tags/escorts for suite+ tiers, everyone else should be coming off by 10 am into the terminal's lower level for the luggage - and heading out thru the exit past CBP - and be outside at street level by 10:30 or 10:45 am for a quick 15 to 20 minutes trip over to Penn Station for your Amtrak boarding - with time to spare.

 

If you do the express/self walk-off, you could end up with lots of time before your next "All Abroad" call ... unless there is an unforeseen delay in clearing the ship. Depending on which cruise lines you are on, you could spend extra time onboard & be among the last to walk-off with your own luggage ... the downside being a possible longer wait at the taxi stand, but there will be plenty of them cruising for a fare & waiting in line. Sometimes, the wait for a car service or limo isn't worth it, especially for such a short trip over to catch the train - just grab/wait in line for the taxi as it does move fairly quickly. If it's extremely long & crowded with several ships in port, go outside & walk across 12th. Avenue/West Side Hwy to the Taxi Stand on the other side, and it's often easier to grab an empty taxi as the driver don't have to come around & get inside the pier terminal on level 2 to do the waiting and pickup.

In my earlier post I was referring to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. Never even thought about the Manhatten terminal since that is so seldom used. So to repeat what I said previously, so far we've never had a problem getting to Penn station in time for the 11:02 train. We have our driver meet us between 9:00 and 9:30.

They could be using either Brooklyn or Manhattan at the start and end of the cruise. Whichever dock Princess uses for the Canada sailing they book out of New York, the time the other person asked about is doable.
