Fish Market Maui

Aloha. Does anyone have any information about Fish Market Maui (it's on Lower Honoapi'ilani Rd.)? A bit of a drive from Lahaina, but it will be worth it if it's good. I was hoping for a fish market in Lahaina, but can't find one.

Also, do any of the Farmers Markets (like the ones in Kahului or Kihei) have fresh fish or other food items besides produce?

beachchick - you're not allowed to say that it's a bit of a drive from Lahaina considering you're coming from the mainland. We can say it here in Hawaii but not you - at most, it'd be a 15 minute drive from Lahaina. :D

The most common way to get really fresh fish

is from roadside sales. The fishermen will stop

their pickup truck along the road with a hand-lettered

sign indicating what their catch is.

In Kahului, for instance, the road along the harbor will

have several people selling, most often on weekends.

I don't recall seeing fish for sale at the swap meet.

Hope this helps.

Ah, but Spleen, remember we live in CA on the Central Coast. For me, a bit of a drive is into the closest small city--about 15 minutes. :D Even going to the nearest town is a big deal--and that's 4 miles and about 8 minutes! We are not mainlanders in the sense of living in big cities or commuting for hours (at least not for the past 12 years; don't miss the city at all).

I do know that it's about 15 minutes. This will be our 4th trip to Maui together (DH used to work in Hawaii for several weeks throughout the year).

bobnsandi: Thanks for the tips. This is the first time we've had a kitchen, so I'm kind of clueless about where to find fresh food that I can cook myself. We'll keep our eyes open.
