Statendam, Alaska in August?

SilvertoGold

Recommended Posts

Just about ready to book a Vancouver to Seward to Vancouver on the Statendam in August.

Usually do Alaska in May or September, so don't really know what to expect:

lots of children?

much whale activity?

relatively warm weather? much rain?

lots of Mariners or mostly first-timers?

much calving in Glacier Bay?

Any comments in any respect about the Statendam would be appreciated, too!

Thanks

You can expect reasonable weather in Aug. Probably the number for families will not be much higher. Statendam is doing a 7 day NB then 7 day SB.

Not very likely to get very many kids due to the cost of flying from ANC home or doing a 14 day cruise. If want info about Statendam read her captain's blog

We did the last week of August and the first week of September.

Lots of rain and chilly weather.

Not many children for those weeks.

Did have a lot of Mariners.

Not much calving in Glacier Bay.

Didn't see but a few whales.

I would never go at that time of the year again.

JMO.

your guess is as good as mine, who knows

much calving in Glacier Bay?

I would think so

Your dealing with Alaska, I've seen 80 degree in May and visa versa in August. You take your chances when ever you go to Alaska. This year they had a very cold rainy May several years ago they had beautiful weather. Just go have a good time and enjoy your trip.
