Help with hotel for single woman

I will be flying into PR on Nov. 2 around 3 pm for our next day cruise. The rest of our group will be arrive later that evening. I am wondering where we should stay that is close to the Pan American Pier. Since I will be alone for much of the afternoon, I would like a place that I feel safe walking/eating by myself. I am a Spanish teacher and I am comfortable interacting with locals so I would love that also. Could you also share how far the airport is to the pier and cost of transportation from airport to hotel and then from hotel to pier?

Thank you for your help.

Natalie

I prefer the Condado area for shopping, beach, and walking around. We've stayed at the Marriott and Conrad but there are a lot of hotels in this area. I can't remember exact taxi costs, so I would hate to quote them. I think each trip was under $20.

When bidding with priceline is the condado area number 8?

When you bid area 8 - San Juan, you could end up with a win in Isla Verde, Condado or Old San Juan. We always bid resort and have been happy with our hotels.

I love the Conrad which is in Condado. They have 3 nice pools, one with a swim up bar, a nice little beach on a cove (no rough surf to deal with), beautiful grounds, lots of restaurants and bars both on-site and within easy walking distance. It is super close to the Pan Am pier. I feel very safe walking around on my own in Condado.

On my last stay, I got a "city-view" room that had a nice balcony with a view of the ships in the distance.

It is a bit-pricy, but I have heard of people getting good deals on Priceline.

As for taxi fare, they charge by the zone. The cheapest fare for one zone, is about $9. It is 3 zones from the airport to the pier (or OSJ) which is $19 plus $1 per bag.

Hi, I always sail solo:).....no different for my upcoming cruise;)

FYI...I have stayed at that Sheraton before. It is the Sheraton

"Convention Center"....it is near the Pan American Pier but that is it.

If you want to go into Old San Juan? You will have to take a cab.

Definitely not close enough to walk to it.

I agree with the Conadado suggestion.....then you can walk around

and find a restaurant too. Take a cab to the pier the next morning

and keep the ship in good shape for me:D as I am going the week

after you:D

No matter where you stay? When you sail from The Pan American

Pier you will have to grab a cab.

I agree regarding the Condado area as well. Nice restaurants and shopping all within walking distance. La Concha (Marriott) Resort is very nice. We stayed there before our Serenade cruise last year. I have a photo review in my signature if you want to see the resort and the surrounding area. Enjoy your cruise! We love sailing out of San Juan.
