What to do after zipline with Tree Top

Just wondering what you may recommend after we do the zipline? We love the beach, local, not high-end shopping, love to be around locals & get a feel for an area.

Depending on which course you are doing at Treetops will determine how much time you have to do anything else afterwards. Treetops is about 1 or so hours form the port - so plan for at least 2 hours of travel time, along with however long at the course itself - if you are doing the triple adventure, you really won't have time for anything else; if you are doing the combo zip and mountain bike, same thing. If you are strictly doing the zipline course - not the challenge or anything else - then you would have some time in the afternoon.

The ship docks right in downtown Castries - the capital of St. Lucia. If you have time, definitely head across the road to theCarstries Craft and Food Market - recently ranked #3 in the world of food markets by National Geographic. There is loads of fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, meats, fish, etc all around and on display - you can pick up some fruit and eat it while you wander, no pesticides or anything on these fruits! The craft market is also great with lots of local made items (and of course the regular tourist stuff).

Castries has a few sights in walking distance - Derek Walcott Square, the Castries Cathedral, etc. for a local beach in walking distance, you can head over to Vigie. Lovely long stretch of beach about 20 minutes walk from the port, past the airport and onto the beach. Several food shacks/bars down near the entrance to the airport. If time allows (more than 2 hours) you can grab a taxi and head up to Reduit Beach/Rodney Bay area. Again, long stretch of beach with lots of restaurants, shopping, etc. It is the tourist area of the island.

Good luck - I hope you do have some time to explore a bit also. Enjoy!

We will be doing the zipline on our Princess cruise in January. Our excursion time is 9-1. Would be have time to see the Pitons? This will be our first trip to the Carribbean and not sure how far the Pitons are from the ship. The ship departs at 6:00 p.m.

Depends on which course/area you are ziplining. If it is the Treetops Adventure Park in Dennery - then yes, you could potentially make it down to see the Pitons, but it would be both expensive and cutting it close on time. It is easily 1 hour from the port to Soufriere/Pitons area. R/T - leave yourself about 2.5 hours as there will be traffic on the way back, especially through the city. a R/T taxi will cost approx. $175US for up to 4 guests. Your driver will point out sights along the way - but doesn't leave you much time for anything extra - lunch, banana plantation, beach, etc. But - it can be done. good luck.

Thank you reedprincess. We don't want to be rushed so I think we will need to pass on the Pitons. It will give us a reason to return! Is there shopping and other nearby siteseeing opportunities since we don't depart until 6:00?

there are a few things to see in Castries town proper - Derek Walcott Square (small park) Castries Cathedral, etc. but not much right around the port area. One great spot, easy walking distance from the port, is the Castries Spice and Craft market. It was recently rated the #3 food market in the world by National Geographic. Huge selections of local produce, meats, fish, spices, etc. along with a wide selection of handmade and other crafts and souvenirs, etc. Definitely a good way to spend a few hours - you can wander through the market, get some lunch at the stands inside (fresh prepared form the ingredients you see around you, etc) It is right across the waterfront from the ports - can't miss it, large building, partially open air with red metal roof.

There is duty free shopping at the ports also.

Otherwise, you could take a taxi up to Rodney Bay for a few hours, shopping, beach, casino, etc. in that area - it is about 30 minutes up and cost $30US one way. Leave longer to get back - traffic again and only 1 road through!

Enjoy!
