gambler Posted June 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2012 Can someone fill me in on the internet availability on the Magic? Can you purchase a package to use on your laptop in your room or do you have to use hot spots? How much is a package? Or, how much does the internet cost in their internet cafe? Thank-you
firefly333 Posted June 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2012 Every ship has wifi. I had a forward balcony deck 6 and barely was connecting, but could have been a high usage time. $4.95 to set up, prices start at 75 cents per minute but go down to 33 cents per minute if you buy a big enough package... very expensive.. much cheaper to buy by the hour in the ports of course. I thought service was still slow, though people tell me better than other ships. I timed it, and it took 4 minutes for me to load yahoo email and get to one email. coolson_2000 Posted June 25, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 25, 2012 You can connect to their internet wirelessly anywhere on the ship or use their fun hubs. If I remember correctly, the cost is around .65-.75 per minute, or you can buy plans at discounted rates. However, even with the discount, it's still expensive. Artb3 Posted June 26, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2012 I was on the Magic two weeks ago and used my laptop in my state room. It was an inside state room. Wi-Fi reception was good. Purchased 120 minutes for $59. Used them all. 120 minutes looks like a lot of time but the connection was slow even during off peak times. A lot of this has to do with the satellite connection. Used the internet to send friends and family emails with lots of pictures. And to check weather at ports of call.
Sargent_Schultz Posted June 26, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2012 When the connection is slow, I just disconnect and try again at a different time. The connection is shared by all and the more people trying to use it at the same time, the slower it is. I typically will upload 100s if not 1000s of downsized pictures on a cruise.
