Hopes4 Posted June 26, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2012 From Facebook: Pease join us in thanking Captain Kenneth Harstrom and the incredible team on board Norwegian Star for responding and bravely rescuing a distressed sailboat this morning. After receiving word from the US Coast Guard that Avenir, a sailing yacht, had lost their rudder and their ability to steer, the Captain immediately diverted course to rescue the three men and three women aboard the yacht. Upon reaching the Avenir, Norwegian Star’s crew worked to rescue the passengers and quickly transfer all six occupants on board the ship.
mommyto2girls Posted June 27, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Saw this on Facebook earlier today, seems as if it is always NCL doing a rescue, you rarely hear this about other cruise lines.

Didn't the Gem do two rescues in the space of 2 weeks earlier this year? We have some kick a** captains. :)
lexanna02 Posted June 27, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Way to go, NCL & Captain Harstrom! I really appreciate it when people choose to do the right thing over the popular thing! NCL & Captain Harstom, along with the Star's crew, are to be highly commended! Thank you so much for showing such selfless wisdom & leadership! Rare mking8288 Posted June 27, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Kudos to NCL, the ship's Captain & officers on duty, and its chains of command in following, observing and carrying out this maritime tradition in its corporate culture - the duty/watch officers on deck were/are doing their jobs, alert and monitoring & listening to radio communications, answering marine distress calls, and taking necessary actions to give helping hands for those in harm's ways. Thank you & "we are the world" exemplified by NCL in its finest - proud of you from all of us surfing on CC. :)
