geospyder Posted June 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2012 We are from the USA and normally use standard (signature required) Visa and Amex for larger purchases when travelling. This month we ran into a slight problem in the Netherlands and Norway. A few places would not accept our credit cards because the cards did not have a Chip/PIN. In November we will be taking a cruise that will include India, Malaysia and Singapore. Can anyone tell me if there will be a problem using standard credit cards in those countries? Rare Keith1010 Posted June 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2012 We had no problems on our recent trip. American Express is not taken everywhere which is the case in other places but between that an Visa you will be fine. Keith
geospyder Posted June 28, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted June 28, 2012 Based on emails from the credit card companies, they are not issuing Chip/Pin cards in the US at the moment. Also according to the credit card companies, the problem lies with the merchant. The Chip/PIN terminals also have a swipe slot that some merchants chose not to use. Long story short I don't need to change cards - just merchants :D
