Jimnbigd Posted July 3, 2012 #26 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Thanks, Sea...I don't know much about RCI, since I've only in the past sailed on Carnival...how does Serenade compare to Navigator? Another difference: Serenade from New Orleans will be doing a Key West and Bahamas route on alternate weeks. I think the voyager class ships are too large to get into Key West. ARCruisinNana Posted July 3, 2012 #27 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Navigator is going into drydock on Jan. 5. 2014 for 4 weeks. She will sail from BCN on Nov. 10. There will be a 7 night cruise from Rome to BCN on Nov. 3.
Texas Teen Posted July 3, 2012 #28 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Makes sense to me now... Navigator was supposed to have her long drydock in Europe before coming to Texas. But that would mean she wouldn't arrive until Christmas, so they shortened her drydock in Europe so she could arrive in time for Thanksgiving instead. But to make up for the lost drydock time in Europe, they'll have to drydock her over here, too. That's why there's a gap in her January schedule. I might be wrong, but this makes the most sense to me.
39august Posted July 3, 2012 Author #29 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Seems to me it would have made more sense to end the TA in Florida, take her down to wherever in the Bahamas that did the Mariner dry dock, then bring her to Galveston. Unfortunately, RCI didn't ask me!
ARCruisinNana Posted July 4, 2012 #30 Share Posted July 4, 2012 Dylan, Navigator will not have any drydock in Europe. She will sail her regular cruises as scheduled through the Oct. 27 cruise. On Nov. 3 she will have a 7 night cruise starting in Rome and ending in Barcelona. On Nov. 10 she will leave on the TA to Galveston. Once in Galveston she will sail 7 day cruises until she enters drydock on Jan. 5, 2014. The drydock will last 4 weeks.

Oh, thanks! :) Didn't realize her scheduled drydock in Europe was cancelled completely.
Topo Gigio Posted July 4, 2012 #32 Share Posted July 4, 2012 Seems to me it would have made more sense to end the TA in Florida, take her down to wherever in the Bahamas that did the Mariner dry dock, then bring her to Galveston. Unfortunately, RCI didn't ask me! Don't you think that they know that too? Don't forget that it's not only Royal Caribbean ships that are being dry docked at the Freeport Grand Bahama Shipyard! it's all about reserving a spot for your ship and most probably they are already taken for November and December! and besides that no cruise line wants to dry dock during the last 2 weeks of December..
