RickEk Posted July 6, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2012 A friend is going on a short cruise the only stop is Ensenda mexico, will they need a passport(US citizens) They will need a certified copy of their birth certificate and a government ID. This rule only applies to closed-loop cruises that begin and end in the same US port.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 6, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 6, 2012 If they are a USA citizen they would not need a passport but would need a birth certificate with raised seal and a government ID assuming that the cruise began and ended in the same USA port. Jimnbigd Posted July 6, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 6, 2012 Except -- If for some reason they have to fly home, then a passport is required. That's one reason many of us recommend passports.
SuiteTraveler Posted July 6, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 6, 2012 Savvy travelers known it is ALWAYS best to cruise with a passport, even on a closed loop cruise. If something goes wrong with the ship and you have to disembark or if you get sick or hurt and need to disembark in Mexico, you need a passport to re-enter the US. Without one, you would be stuck in Mexico and have to work with the US embassy to get an expedited passport.

Keith It has to be certified and official, but not necessarily with a raised seal. Some jurisdictions do not use a raised seal to certify BC's.
