kr9457 Posted July 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Who general gives the best weather forecast for Alaska? They all seem to be different for next week. Also, when it rains is it usually all day???
Peteymil Posted July 9, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Who general gives the best weather forecast for Alaska? They all seem to be different for next week. Also, when it rains is it usually all day??? Very hard to plan. Last week in Ketchikan it rained the whole time we were there, sometimes light, sometimes heavy. In Juneau, it just misted a bit. Every day can be different.
Putterdude Posted July 9, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2012 You are not likely going to get a weather forecast for more than 3 days out that is going to be accurate. It can rain for a few hours or for a full day anywhere in coastal Alaska with Ketchikan being the worst for rain.

Also, when it rains is it usually all day??? The fact that all the forecasts are different should tell you something about how accurately they are able to predict the weather in Alaska. :D Take your pick of forecasts, or average them out, but the best thing would be prepared for all of them. Then just take what you get and enjoy!
PennyAgain Posted July 9, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Alaska is huge and the distances are often great between towns, but even in the typical cruising area a couple of miles can make a difference in the weather. A prediction is nothing more than a set of averages/ a guess. Altitude also makes a big difference in weather. You pay your money and take your chances. Rare Keith1010 Posted July 9, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Weather changes frequently and like other parts of the world the forecasts are not always right even a 24 hour forecast. Keith
Chenega Posted July 9, 2012 #7 Share Posted July 9, 2012 If you want the best information, go to http://www.noaa.gov which is the National Weather Service site. You will need a city name or zip code. However, this can be a rather pointless exercise since weather is simply too variable up here with too many factors involved. Best to prepare for anything and go from there.
