Walk from Train Station to Downtown Anchorage?

Thinking about taking the train from Seward to Anchorage at the end of a cruise, instead of the shuttle, but not sure if we can walk into Downtown Anchorage from the train station or is it too far? We have about 6 hours to kill and not sure what to do, don't want to just sit at the airport. Thanks

It is a bit of an uphill walk to downtown, but is easy enough. If you are here on the weekend, the Saturday market is fun to do. There is plenty of restaurants and shopping available. You can also try your luck at beluga watching from the L street area. Or rent a bike and do some of the coastal trail. You will have no problem burning up 6 hours. Enjoy your visit.

It's pretty steep. You better be in good condition and not have too much luggage. We chooe to take a cab who wasn't going to charge us for the short trip from the Hilton. We gave him $5 and he was happy.

Instead of walking uphill to downtown, walk back behind the train station to the Ulu factory. Do a little shopping (you don't have to buy anything if you don't want), then catch the free Ulu Factory shuttle which will take you up the hill to the heart of downtown Anchorage and let you off near 4th & F streets. Even though it's free, tip the driver a buck or two for good karma. :)

Since this would be the cruise contracted train, doesn't it go to the airport??? Then a shuttle bus available to downtown. Was so, in the past?

The train does not stop at the airport is what I was told by Celebrity, the shuttle yes the train no...were they wrong? wouldn't be the first time an agent didn't know for certain and just didn't look, but from what I can tell it stops at the station near downtown.

Kackeroo, Love the idea about visiting Ulu Factory first then using their shuttle to visit downtown, get to do both that way thanks! And we always tip :D
