DIY Monte Carlo, Monaco to Eze, France

SSAA33

Recommended Posts

We will be in Monte Carlo in September (11AM to 7PM).

We are planning on taking the bus to Eze as soon as we get into port. We'll take the bus up to the Casino area, where we can catch the #112 to Eze.

After spending about an hour there we will head back to Monte Carlo to see the casino and do some shopping.

We will then go to the Old Monaco area to see the palace and cathedral, before heading back down to port via the elevators/escalators (using Tom's Port Guide instructions).

Is this a feasible plan? Any tips or suggestions? Anyone have experience with the 112 bus from Monte Carlo to Eze?

Your plan is absolutely feasible and better then most since you are not planning to do too many things. That being said, keep in mind that the #112 bus does not run very often and you will have to carefully plan around that bus schedule. In case you do not have it here is a link to the detailed timetable for the bus:

Thanks, Hank!

Nice & Cannes were tempting but I figured we should save them for a later time and keep this plan reasonable =D And Monaco itself seems very nice so I definitely want to save time to spend there.

You're right about the bus not being very frequent. If we don't catch the 11:55, plan B will be just spending the extra time in Monte Carlo. I am hoping that our ship arrives into port a little ahead of the 11AM schedule.

Eze looks amazing and I honestly woudn't have even thought of going out there if it wasn't for cruisecritic!

If you've been on this bus route before - is it a scenic drive?

Looking at the bus map, it looked like it drives a little inland from the coast. But if the area between the road & coast is downhill, I'm thinking we'd still have a nice view? Wondering if we should be running to save a seat on the left side of the bus.

My one word description of Eze Village would be "quaint." It is my 2nd favorite place in the region (St Paul de Vence would always be #1 and Old Town Nice #2). Monte Carlo is far down our personal list of favorites, but is certainly an interesting place for first-time visitors.

A couple of other things I wanted to confirm:

- I read that there is no border/immigration procedures for crossing into France from Monaco. Should we still carry our passports to be safe?

- From the port, is it best to take the #1 or #2 bus from Princess Stephanie to Cremaillere Stop (where we can catch the #112 to Eze)? Or should we take the bateau bus across the harbor and then walk to Cremaillere Stop?

If we get on the #1, it does not stop at Cremaillere Stop so we will walk there from the Casino Tourisme stop.

-Going from the Oceanographic Museum back to the port - how much time do we save by taking the escalators/elevators as opposed to just walking down? I'm thinking that if we are ahead of schedule (and not tired) it might be a nice walk.

Quaint sounds perfect! Glad we'll finally get to experience this part of France. St Paul de Vence looks beautiful - I hope we get a chance to go there on a future visit.
