mason525 Posted July 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2012 Can you get a cab from the port of Getxo(Bilbao) to San Sebastian? If so any idea of cost? Thanks, Meg
cruising cockroach Posted July 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2012 It's a long way so won't be cheap. Better to pre-arrange a car and driver.
cruiseluv Posted July 24, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2012 How many hours are you in Bilbao? There is frequent bus service between Bilbao and SS (takes about an hour).
TERRIER1 Posted July 24, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2012 We took the bus from Bilboa and the scenery was beautiful. The bus runs frequently and you get an assigned seat.
Rare Hlitner Posted July 24, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2012 We once spent a few days in San Sebastian and really enjoyed some of its fine restaurants and sandy beach. What was memorable about the beach was how locals used it in the summer on work days. We saw men come onto the beach in business suits and carefully strip down (they already had swim suits on) right on the sand carefully folding their clothes and storing them in a bag. And then there was a women who showed up on the beach in a very nice professional outfit. She pulled out a large fabric bag which she put over her head (there was a hole for her head). She then proceeded to get totally undressed under that bag and change into her swim suit. We thought it was a teriffic idea. These folks had obviously finished their word day and simply stopped on the beach for a swim before heading home. Hank

Where was the bus stop in relation to the port? Can you walk to the bus stop from the ship? Any info would be appreciated. TERRIER1 Posted July 26, 2012 #7 Share Posted July 26, 2012 Where was the bus stop in relation to the port? Can you walk to the bus stop from the ship? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Mary Ann We were on Oceania and they (or the port) ran a shuttle to the center of town in Bilboa. We walked to the Guggenheim and then walked to the bus station which was a leisurely 20 minute walk. I believe we took a PESA bus line to San Sebastian from Bilboa. The bus station in San Sebastian is in the the center of town. We took a local bus down to the water and then walked back to the bus station in San Sebastian for the ride back to Bilboa. If you google bus station for both Bilboa and San Sebastion you will see where they are. I am pretty sure that the port of Bilboa runs a shuttle for all cruise ships. mason525 Posted July 26, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted July 26, 2012 Thanks for all your helpful advise. We will be overnight in Getxo/Bilbao & there are 3 of us. Thought we could do the bus route there, but might prefer a cab back to ship after dinner in SS. Do you need to buy bus tix in advance? Thanks again. cruising cockroach Posted August 1, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 1, 2012 Just remember that the names could be Donostia and Bilbo. Getxo remains the same. happily, the region is getting less Spanish.
