david_sobe Posted July 26, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2012 I cannot comment on the kids clubs but the Sky is the PERFECT first cruise. Are you going to Atlantis in Nassau? That place is a blast with the slides. The restaurants are very good and treat yourself to one specialty if you can afford it. If you like steak, the steakhouse Cagneys is a must. Have fun! spacepotatoes Posted July 26, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2012 Same tips I give everyone who asks about the Sky: 2 for 1 martinis at the Plantation Club in the evenings. It may not be well advertised but look for it. If it's offered, it's the best deal going! Well worth it. The Great Outdoors is awesome for breakfast and for sailaways. People don't really seem to figure out that it's there until the end of the cruise so it's never really crowded and views are great.
jdvmd Posted July 26, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 26, 2012 The Sky is a great ship. Sailed on her twice now. Here is a link to my Cruise Critic review of our latest sailing at the end of February. http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=98057
kylenyc Posted July 27, 2012 #6 Share Posted July 27, 2012 You're only allowed one 6 yr old that must fit in the overhead bin and one personal item. The 9 yr old must be check-in baggage. Before you disembark, turn off your cell phone or switch it to flight mode. Phone calls and data at sea are very expensive. If NCL supports your carrier at sea, you could run up hundreds of dollars easily. Google it to read the horror stories. Turning off roaming or data on your phone is not enough. If you arrive before your staterooms are ready, you may be shuffled into the pool area for a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, and the like. However, further aft on the same deck is the buffet with a larger selection of dishes, and as spacepotatoes mentioned, way back is great outdoors with a beautiful view. The fish on the carpet always swim toward the front of the ship (except that one rebel fish :D) Dinner time, go look at the menu at the main dining room. If the dishes don't appeal to you, run up to the buffet. If they do, enjoy will be a wonderful meal, and afterwards still run up to the buffet :D Oh and the main dining room serves breakfast and lunch too. Hikini Posted July 27, 2012 #7 Share Posted July 27, 2012 The Sky was our first cruise too. We enjoyed the observation lounge on the Sky more than any other ship. They have a fancier name for it than that now, but it's the big lounge at the front of the ship on about deck 11 or 12. With a nice open deck in the front with unobstructed view. (No glass or plexi-glass partition.) Have fun!
