nhcruiser Posted August 7, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2012 We moved to Long Island last May and need some local knowledge from other Cruise Critics from Long Island. Our October 31st cruise departs the Brooklyn Cruise Pier. Does anyone have a referral for a reliable Town Car or Shuttle operator that will pick us up at our home and get us to the Brooklyn Cruise Pier? We will also need to get home from the airport following the flight back to New York. Any Ideas?
njhorseman Posted August 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2012 I think it would be helpful to know where in Long Island you live, as people may be familiar with car services based near your home.

Islanderman Posted August 9, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2012 We moved to Long Island last May and need some local knowledge from other Cruise Critics from Long Island. Any Ideas? You might want to consider the LIRR as an alternative to a car service. That's how we plan to get the Brooklyn Pier for our cruise next month. We'll take the LIRR from Ronkonkoma to Brooklyn and get a cab or car service from the station to the pier. Should be a fraction of the cost of a car service from home. In making that choice, you do need to consider the car service convenience of getting picked up and dropped off at your home without having to deal with luggage. I also don't know if I would do it from Port Jeff since the train schedule is not that convenient and the trip is slow. However, if the Ronkonkoma station is an option for you, I think that it becomes a more reasonable choice. If your return flight lands at JFK, you can also use the Train to the Plane and then take the LIRR from Jamaica toward home. We've done that several times and it's worked out very well for us, even with heavy luggage. Rich
nhcruiser Posted August 9, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Rich. We did consider the LIRR but were concerned about the connection to the pier. Your point of taking a taxi solves that question. I did find a van service for $160 to the pier. Your idea of LIRR is sure to be way less than that! Good ideas, thanks! Rare mking8288 Posted August 9, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Using the Brooklyn LIRR/Atlantic Terminal in connecting to the Red Hook pier, you will find designated taxi stand/car service waiting in lines - ready to take you anywhere. Local car services will be lined up along Fort Green Place at the corner of Atlantic Avenue, use the LIRR elevator/exit closest to it - traffic for this area is hectic on weekdays and less so on weekend. It's right outside/next to Target & Pathmark supermarket - google for it & switch to Street View and you can visualize it. Print out directions to the pier for the driver, just in case, although the local ones should all be familiar by now with getting there without lost - less than 10 to 15 minutes away thru traffic lights & stop signs, no tolls & highway jams. Islanderman Posted August 10, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Thanks for that info. Good to know that there will be taxis and car service lined up to get us to the port. I think that I read that it's a straight trip west on Atlantic Avenue, but I will print out the directions. Rich
