How Did Your Slot Pull Go? ? ?

On another thread, I have been giving some information on how to hold a slot Pull. That is found on this thread

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1337398&goto=newpost

Now if you have run a Slot Pull, why not share with others how it went on your cruise? So, come on give us some feedback, how did it go; did you win or lose overall; would you do it again; positives/negatives?

Thanks

I did not run a slot pull, but I participated in 2 on 2 different cruises. We ended up losing about half of our money.

It was really a lot of fun for a small amount of money. I would definitely do it again. No one seemed to have any complaints. On both we had quite a few people all from cruise critics. About 15 or 20 as I recall. We played a 3.00 progressive machine both times. Lots of cheering and booing and laughing!:D

I have not run a slot pull, but my husband participated in one on our last cruise. It was a lot of fun, I ended up wishing I had included myself. Everyone in our group won about $40.00 over and above what they had originally put in. A fun bonding experience for our CC roll call group!

I participated in one on our TA and then I ran one on our B2B. Everyone reportedly had a good time. We wagered $15 each on the Wheel of Fortune and we decided as a group to continue playing until we were out of cash. The Casino was running a Tournament at the same time but it didn`t interfere with us. The slot machine we chose was at the door and everyone could see the action. Our B2B was port intensive so we chose the one at sea day in the afternoon. I asked if anyone was interested in a slot pull for the cruise in Sept but there were no takers.

It was great fun! As I had many email addresses from the people from our Roll Call we also organized a mini baby shower for the wife of one of the waiters that was on our sailing. Yes, I would do it again if there was interest.

Hi There

Set up two, kept them simple no lists of names no rules etc

we turned up at an agreed time,

buy in was $20

that got you so many pulls

at the end we had money left from winnings about

$16 so we went again, and again

lasted well over an hour

small wins got just as big a cheer bigger wins

in the end there was no money left

but everyone agreed great fun for just $20

yours Shogun

  • 1 month later...

Just got back from a 14 round trip L.A. to Hawaii and back and we held 2 Slot Pulls as we had multiple days at sea. On the first one there were 48 people in it and each one of us got back $11 on our $15 investment. Everyone said it was worth way more than $4 worth of fun. The person who won the most money for the group ended up getting an additional $32.

Then we had a 2nd one on the way back from Hawaii also. The 2nd time, we had 40 people participate and we each got $12 back on our $15 investment. Again it was worth the $3.00 fun that we all had. Some people have some very creative ways of approaching the machine and hitting the button or pulling the handle.

All in all everyone seemed to enjoy the 2 Slot pulls on our 14 day cruise but again, we had time to do 2 as we were at sea so many days.

We had one last year with about 18 people at $15 each. Everyone had five pulls. We were down a few bucks after everyone had their pulls and the group decided to go again. After the second round, half of us cashed out with about $12. The other half decided to stay to keep trying. They lost more money but I didn't hear how much.

I've run several slot pulls and my advice is KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Yes it's good to get an idea ahead of time of how many people want to participate to see if it's even worth while having one.

But on my last one I had a "co-organizer" who had spread sheets etc and it was mass confusion. So many folks on the spread sheet didn't show up. (we had to switch times as we arrived and all there was a computer malfunction so most of the machines were down) Then there were folks who participated and they weren't on the list. So needless time was spent trying to locate them on the spread sheet. Then some participants left early and the count was off so the $$ was divided and the people who left didn't get their share. DO NOT OVERPLAN.

My advice.....

1)get a ballpark number ahead of time. Not worth doing for 4 or 5 people.

2)Decide on a time ahead of time and remind ppl at the meet and greet (if you have one). And REMIND THEM TO BRING EXACT CHANGE (we did $15)

3)AS EACH PERSON puts their $15 in the machine, write his/her name down. Next to their name write how much they won (if anything).

We did a $1 machine. 3 lines ($3) per pull for 5 pulls each.

4)Leave all the $$ won by each person in the machine.

5)At the end, divide all the money in the machine by the # of participants to the NEAREST DOLLAR. Any extra cash goes to the person with the largest winning spin.

Yes it's good to get an idea ahead of time of how many people want to participate to see if it's even worth while having one.

But on my last one I had a "co-organizer" who had spread sheets etc and it was mass confusion. The spreadsheet that I print in advance is very simple and sorts on people's cabin numbers; not on names. That way it is very easy to find the people who want to participate. If they do not show up, not a big deal; just count those who did participate. And if a few more do join at the last minute, add them to the bottom of the spreadsheet.

So many folks on the spread sheet didn't show up. (we had to switch times as we arrived and all there was a computer malfunction so most of the machines were down) Then there were folks who participated and they weren't on the list. So needless time was spent trying to locate them on the spread sheet. Then some participants left early and the count was off so the $$ was divided and the people who left didn't get their share. again, if you have their cabin numbers, you can always call them and make arrangements to get their money to them.

DO NOT OVERPLAN.

My advice.....

1)get a ballpark number ahead of time. Not worth doing for 4 or 5 people.

2)Decide on a time ahead of time and remind ppl at the meet and greet (if you have one). And REMIND THEM TO BRING EXACT CHANGE (we did $15). I make out small slips of paper that are printed at home prior to boarding the ship to remind them of the Slot Pull and I deliver to each cabin a day or 2 prior to the scheduled event. In case of a change, cross off the date and make the change to the new date. If you did not want to go to the trouble of delivering the reminder pieces of paper, (again with the cabin numbers) you can call them and leave a reminder message about the day and time of the Slot Pull.

3)AS EACH PERSON puts their $15 in the machine, write his/her name down. Next to their name write how much they won (if anything).

We did a $1 machine. 3 lines ($3) per pull for 5 pulls each.

See some of my comments above in red.

Thanks

We had a great time with our slot pull. There were quite a few of us from our CC M&G. We put in $15 and played the Wheel of Fortune machine. It was a lot of fun as we all cheered each other on and we had a lot of onlookers as we were so noisy and it was the machine right near the door. I got a Wheel of Fortune spin and landed on $1000.00. We all ended up with $41 after we all took our turns. It was great fun!!!!

This will be my second slot pull I have organize. The upcoming one in April has had very good response. I thought I seen somewhere where the organizer split into two side by side slots. I was thinking that it might be a good idea as we now have 26 people and I think it might take too long. So do you split the wins among everyone or just the say 13 on that particular slot? Has anyone done this?

Maybe 26 or so people will be ok on one machine, thoughts?

That's EXACTLY how the person who organized ours on a recent cruise did it.

He had done quite a few of these before so everything went smoothly and a FUN time was had by all. :D

Note: He had us sign up on our Roll Call and give him our cabin number so he could call to remind us the day before.

We had about 25 playing and we ended up losing $1.00 pp.

Karen,

I do not think 26 is too many at one time for one machine. Last time I had almost 70 who played one machine. The thinking is that the more $$$$ in one machine, the more likely it is to pay off rather than splitting the $$$$ between 2 machines. When everyone is there cheering people on, it does not take that long. Agreed some people wandered off for a time but came back when it was time to pay off. Guess it is up to the individual organizer as to how they want to handle it.

Thanks Ann

I just want to be the slot pull hostess with the mostest! I can't remember how many we had on the first TA but if it worked with 70 it should be ok. I have recruited help from the roll call to help keep track of the # of pulls.

We ended up with 40 participants. I decided to speak with the casino host. She gave is some comps for a raffle. She was already aware of our event as she had read about it in CC. She told me that it is expected on a TA. She had the cashier help me with the payout which was a blessing. We used the wheel of fortune machine and everyone got $12 .50 back. While not a big win, everyone agreed that they had a great time for $2.50 :)

We had some people who had never played before and the casino host told me that as the organizer of the event, they trust me. When the decision to play out the money or cash it out, I listened to the majority and paid out.

I participated in a slot pull on the Emerald Princess organized through our CC roll call this past January. Now I am not a big time gambler and would never drop more than a dollar into a machine.

There were sixteen of us and we each played the "Wheel of Fortune" for the max bet and each of us put in $15 for three pulls. Overall, we each received $14 back. Okay, a loss of only a dollar each and it was a fun diversion for a sea day!

So for $1, you all had fun and that is what it is all about. Thanks for the feedback on your experience.
