ABoatNerd Posted August 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2012 Curious to know if it is possible to see the Concordia sailing by on the Solstice from Barcelona to Barcelona return? Thank you very much ABoatNerd
kendon Posted August 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2012 According to USA Today, yesterday, it looks like the Costa Concordia won't be moved until spring '13. You may see it.
robtulipe Posted August 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2012 I doubt you will be able to see the Concrodia. Giglio Island, that wreck's location, is about 50 miles north west of Civitavecchia, the port for Rome. Solstice's route shows it going between Sardinia and Corsica which will have it approaching that port from the south west. It then goes south so never gets north of Rome on that side of Italy. I don't think the captain of the Solstice is likely to take the time and expense to sail the extra distance required just to see an example of the studity of another sea captain. Rare ghstudio Posted August 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2012 No, you won't see it.....it's on shore and you are sailing many miles off shore. We passed by in April on the Equinox.
cruzinlady1947 Posted August 14, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2012 You can see it here: WebCam Giglio Porto Panoramica | isola-del-giglio | webcam Just remember the time change when viewing this. Might be night time over there during our daytime hours. Can't really see it when it is dark over there. Gwen :)

CRUZBUDS Posted August 14, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2012 I imagine most lines would want to avoid getting near enough to see it.. the whole thing was bad for business :(
momofmeg Posted August 14, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 14, 2012 We saw nothing and were told nothing back in June-I would think if you could see something an announcement would be made. Perhaps not? Remember the problem that caused the disaster was the ship was WAAY too close to the island. Also the ship is partially submerged now-so even though you can see things off in the distance-that would make it harder to see that it was a ship. Perhaps it would just look like a blob in the distance and not a ship-not even that at night- as I doubt it is lighted. In a way I am glad we saw nothing or was told nothing. That would have put a damper on my cruise thinking of those poor people that died. Others that would scare being told about it if they are easily scared. LOL! someone like my MIL! She was terrified for us to go!
eetonaee Posted August 15, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 15, 2012 You won't see it from your ship but if you are flying towards France from Rome you may see it shortly after takeoff from your airplane window. I took this photo in mid June,
