Alaska cruisetour and laundry

Recommended Posts

We will be going on our first Alaska cruisetour in 2013. Royal Caribbean tour #12. I have read that on the cruise part, there is a "Wash and Fold" laundry bag provided for one day. Do you get one bag per stateroom, or one bag per person? Also, if anyone has taken this tour and has the itinerary of times for arriving and leaving each of the land portion cities, I would really appreciate it if you could post this. I realize the times may change from year to year, but it could at least give me an idea. Thank you so much.

They will usually give you one bag per stateroom per 7 day cruise, but people have reported that they were able to ask for more. The bag is for select items, such as underwear, socks, t-shirts. You can use the regular laundry service anytime, you don't have to wait for the special bag. The prices are not that bad.

We had time to do laundry on the last morning of our land tour. We were at the Alyeska Resort in Girwood and had until 1pm the last day until we had to board the busses to the ship. We took the free hotel shuttle into "downtown" Girwood and went to the public laundrymat. It was VERY clean, and they had a computer for public use, so we caught up on emails while the clothes washed. Once the clothes went into the dryer, we walked next door to a diner and had a great breakfast while our clothes dried. Then it was fold, repack into our suitcases and take the free shuttle back to the hotel in time to leave for the ship.

It will really on depend on your land tour itinerary and times you'll be in each place.

This is the itin from #11 from 2010, but it will give you an idea of how they do things. We understood that there were no laundry facilities at most of our lodgings on the pre-cruise land portion, but it turned out that there were facilities at one place which we used. If we'd have known it we could have saved the hassle (and expense!) of one bag that we took.

If I was doing it again, I would call the hotel shortly before leaving & ask about guest laundry-you might be able to haul less baggage if you are ok with doing some laundry mid-trip.
