wantocruisemore Posted September 9, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2012 Looking at changing our Barcelona cruise to one out of Venice. We would want to stay about 4 nights or so in Venice post-cruise. There would be at least a family of 4, possibly 5 if a friend of DD goes. I'm checking trip advisor but any suggestions or companies that you have used? Also, what would be a good location to get for touring? If Venice is like Rome then location is everything. Hoping to find something around the $200 range for May.
-Lew- Posted September 9, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2012 We've had success using Vacation Rentals by Owner for rentals in France. I feel comfortable recommending them for Venice rentals. Lew

WisRiver Posted September 9, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2012 We rented at the apartment listed below for a week. The apartment is in the Zattere and we were there in mid-October before getting on a trans Atlantic cruise. We were a group of three couples and enjoyed our stay. Two years ago we rented a one bedroom apartment in San Polo which we found through Vacation Rentals by Owner. This apartment is no longer on their web site. http://www.veniceluxuryapartment.com/home.html Enjoy
wantocruisemore Posted September 9, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted September 9, 2012 What a beautiful place! Reminds me a lot of the one we rented in Rome last summer. But I just checked the link and it is rented almost the entire month of May. Thanks anyway. We rented at the apartment listed below for a week. mapleleaves Posted September 10, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2012 May is high season so $200 a night is pretty low for a 5-person accomodation. Venice is very small so I wouldn't worry about which area to stay in ... you can walk from one end to the other in an hr or in 10 minutes walk to the Canal and catch a water bus. We stayed at Piccolo Guerrato, between the Rialta Bridge and St Marks. It was 200E per night. A simple place but clean and comfortable. There was 1 bedroom with a king bed, plus 2 single beds in the living/dining area which also served as the couch (see photo). We loved the area; it's on a touristy calle with shops so we could throw open the big shutters and people watch in the evenings. There was also a church and square next door so it was an active area yet quiet. Safe to wander around at night. It only sleeps 4 tho. http://www.pensioneguerrato.it/piccolo_guerrato_en.asp Try these sites which are often mentioned on tripadvisor. http://www.venietiam.com/index.aspx http://www.veniceby.com/ Or look at the Hotel Santa Lucia for a family room. It's a budget hotel; simple but very clean and comfortable.

If I find something ideal we can go higher. The 5th person is a maybe. It's a friend of one of our DD's that may meet us in Venice. Unfortunately her college exam schedule may be an issue so we may not know until after Mar. or so if she is going. I want to go ahead and reserve our apartment as soon as we have our dates firmed up. CupKayke Posted September 12, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 12, 2012 http://www.bestwindowsvenice.com/ These are actually huge 1-bedroom apartments overlooking St Mark's Square... and very reasonably priced... I would think you would probably make your $200 mark or just under. Check-out Trip Advisor for more information on them.
