Embarkation at Civitavecchia - where and how?

Hi all, we're embarking Norwegian EPIC at Civitavecchia on Oct 17 for the 17 day TA via BCN.

Can someone who had that experience enlighten on how it's done?

Is there a terminal that we need to go in to check in? If so, where is it?

Or do we go straight to the ship, board and then check in?

What about luggage? Do we take them aboard with us? Or are there porters?

THANKS!

It's been a few years since we boarded there, but unless they've built a terminal since then, there's no terminal. When your taxi, or bus, or limo drives up you'll see your ship and probably an area with chairs, shaded by an awning. That's your check-in area.

Just as at any ther port there will be porters to take your luggage.

We were there two years ago. no terminal and confusing for drivers to find the ship. It is quite expensive to get to Civitavecchia. The day we were to leave the trains were on strike (suddenly) and cabs were on strike (suddenly). So our hotel found us a private car. I think it cost close to $100 to get there. So when the ship offered transportation via bus into Rome, we took it. My husband said, "It can't cost $100." Uh, it cost more! I hate going out of Civitavecchia and have done it twice.

There are no terminal and Civitavecchia port is very big. We use private transfer from FCO airport and driver took us directly to check-in area. It was a big tent and porters took luggage before entering to tent for check-in.

Thank you!

This is what we figured out and were hoping for! Sooooo easy!!

We have been to Civitavecchia before (day's stop) and didn't notice any terminal there. This is our first time embarking at Civitavecchia and we'll be going there directly from FCO - also a private transfer.

We have taken a few ships out of Civitavecchia over the years and will be going on the Jade from the same port.

The port is very large and complicated. We also use a private car service from the FCO to the port. We always fly in a day in advance, stay at an airport hotel (either the Hilton or Courtyard by Marriott). Transfer to the ship for two persons costs about $200.

Most ships have a tent, as mentioned. Porters take luggage as you arrive, you only have your carryon to take aboard.
