Sunmist Posted September 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Hi All, So I just got off the Splendor this past Sunday and signed up for My Awesome Bar Package. Let me just say how much I LOVED this package. It was so nice not having to worry about how much money I was spending on drinks throughout the week. It was awesome trying all the different drinks I would probably not try if I had to pay drink by drink. It was great not having to go down to my room to get the booze I smuggled (BTW all my booze got taken away on this cruise). We never hit the limit of 15 drinks, but we definitely drank enough to make it completely worth it. We had 12 people in our group and we all bought the card and we all loved it! I really hope Carnival makes My Awesome Bar Package fleetwide. I will be sad if I have to sail next year without it!

erinpdx Posted September 11, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Thanks for the great feeback. I will be on the Splendor over Thanksgiving. Did you feel like the bar service was just as attentive for those who had the card?

Kangapong Posted September 11, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Carnival are you listening? If you made this package available on the Valor we absolutely would purchase it.
Fourkids4us Posted September 11, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Could you get the drink of the day?(I assume they dont give you the glass)
erinpdx Posted September 11, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Maybe you could help clarify. There is another thread similar to this where people are trying to determine if you have to pay tax on top of the cost of the card and the 15% gratuity. Some are saying to wait to purchase it until the ship is out to sea in international waters. Do you recall what your total cost was? Did you pay when your first boarded or did you wait? I'm excited to try it. I know, like you, I will try drinks that I wouldn't have otherwise ordered. Sounds like fun.
drosphot Posted September 11, 2012 #9 Share Posted September 11, 2012 I think I am sold, but the wife is happy with BV all day long. I like to vary mine, wine with dinner, beer at the casino, frozen drinks on deck. Hope it's on the Magic in January! If the wife doesn't want it she can get me 15 drinks on her card and have the BV... ;)
Sunmist Posted September 11, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Could you get the drink of the day?(I assume they dont give you the glass) Yeah, you could get any drink you want...thats under $10, but there are only a handful of drinks that are above $10 (mostly expensive wines). You just aren't able to get any of the souvenir cups. Also, you're able to get sodas with the card, so you don't have to buy a soda card either, which is great. Did you feel like the bar service was just as attentive for those who had the card? how would they know you had the card. you are just a customer ordering a drink. BTW we always tip the nice (no attitude) bartenders and cocktail servers. A buck goes a long way and they will remember you.

I'm excited to try it. I know, like you, I will try drinks that I wouldn't have otherwise ordered. Sounds like fun. You have to pay a one-time 15% gratuity in the beginning. When we were in our embarkation port of Long Beach, we had to pay tax, which came out to $0.72 a drink. Once we set sail there was no more tax. Even when we were in Mexico, there were no taxes. It was only in Long Beach.
Sunmist Posted September 11, 2012 Author #15 Share Posted September 11, 2012 how would they know you had the card. you are just a customer ordering a drink. BTW we always tip the nice (no attitude) bartenders and cocktail servers. A buck goes a long way and they will remember you. It was the bartenders walking around when we were at the pool. There's a sticker that goes on your card, so they all know you are part of the programs. All the bartenders got to know us after the first couple drink :D

I think it's helpful to pull up the bar menu from one of these threads and figure out how much you think you would spend per day. That is what I did. Between mimosas in the morning, sodas and wine/martinis at night it is going to be worth it for me. I also think I will end up trying new drinks this way which will be kind of fun. If I'm paying $50/day and three days are at port, is it even worth it? Yeah, we had 3 port days and we still made it worth it those days too. I always order wine at dinner, drinks at the shows, the disco etc.

Sunmist Posted September 11, 2012 Author #21 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Did your sodas count towards your drinks? yeah, but the days I knew I wasn't gonna be close to reaching my max (like sea days) I would order sodas.
