Avril Posted September 11, 2012 #26 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Hi All, So I just got off the Splendor this past Sunday and signed up for My Awesome Bar Package. Let me just say how much I LOVED this package. It was so nice not having to worry about how much money I was spending on drinks throughout the week. It was awesome trying all the different drinks I would probably not try if I had to pay drink by drink. It was great not having to go down to my room to get the booze I smuggled (BTW all my booze got taken away on this cruise). We never hit the limit of 15 drinks, but we definitely drank enough to make it completely worth it. We had 12 people in our group and we all bought the card and we all loved it! I really hope Carnival makes My Awesome Bar Package fleetwide. I will be sad if I have to sail next year without it! Is the 15 drink limit per day or for the entire cruise? I hope the program is on the Imagination next December, I'd love to try it!!!! :D
Name Of The Game Posted September 11, 2012 #27 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Refer to other thread. It will be clear as mud. :D http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1699607
DEBnGAB Posted September 11, 2012 #28 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Did they make any exception to the "everyone in the stateroom has to purchase" for people who might have medical reasons why they cannot drink? I posed that question to John Heald and he said at this time there werent exceptions and then went on to say there are a variety of non-alcoholic drinks available under the package. If I am pregnant or diabetic or have another reason I cannot drink, sorry, I'm not paying $50/day to drink sugary virgin drinks or sodas all day. YoungGangMom Posted September 11, 2012 #29 Share Posted September 11, 2012 I think it's helpful to pull up the bar menu from one of these threads and figure out how much you think you would spend per day. That is what I did. Between mimosas in the morning, sodas and wine/martinis at night it is going to be worth it for me. I also think I will end up trying new drinks this way which will be kind of fun. Do you recall where which thread that was?
Doug910 Posted September 11, 2012 #30 Share Posted September 11, 2012 We'll be seeing a lot more drunks and puking with this program. ...I originally thought the same exact thing about this program and really didn't like the idea, but I decided to give it a little more thought. ...It appears to me that the cruisers that may partake in this program are people who like their drinks throughout the day. As others have said, "wine with dinner, beer at the casino, frozen drinks on deck." I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's the amateurs that are normally the problem. The drinkers that purchase six drinks in a day, and finish them within the hour. Banging down six Jack and Coke, Captain and Coke or shots of Chivas is a sure to cause the body to experience an "upheaval."

OKCruiseMan Posted September 11, 2012 #32 Share Posted September 11, 2012 We'll be seeing a lot more drunks and puking with this program. No one knows for sure (including me) but I don't think it will have the impact you think it will. People who like to drink too much, already do.
LovesCruising Posted September 11, 2012 #33 Share Posted September 11, 2012 So can you buy the pkg after leaving port while at sea in order to avoid the tax?
CanWeGoYet? Posted September 11, 2012 #34 Share Posted September 11, 2012 This kind of package is never going to work for someone like me - it's a big drinking day if I have 3 in the entire day. For alcohol I don't normally have more than a couple of glasses of wine in a week. But I'm glad Carnival is starting to offer beverage packages. I hope they add other options. I know Celebrity has all sorts of different packages. Even bottled water packages.

cathyz Posted September 11, 2012 #38 Share Posted September 11, 2012 asking a ? again. maybe you did not see it.Do the soda's count toward your 15 drink count. many thanks posting this thread. No sodas are unlimited.
cathyz Posted September 11, 2012 #39 Share Posted September 11, 2012 So can you buy the pkg after leaving port while at sea in order to avoid the tax? There is no tax on the purchase of the package (it's $691 for 2 people which includes the 15% tip only), but for the individual drinks you order while still in Long Beach, you need to pay an addition CA tax for those individual drinks only, once the ship leaves port, there is is no more tax. So on your S&S you'll see a few CA tax charges for the few hours the ship is still in Long Beach (i.e. maybe $0.72 or so).
Sunmist Posted September 11, 2012 Author #40 Share Posted September 11, 2012 yes, its 15 drinks a day. we were told by some bartenders that sodas do count towards your drinks and others that they don't. I think they are still figuring out exactly how it all works. I also think you're only allowed to buy it the first and second day. Not 100% sure about that though. We bought it right when we got on the ship.

Here is my dilema, I am a very big wine drinker and always order bottle of wine from the Bon Voyage department. I have 5 bottle of wine on order for my upcoming cruise. Should I cancel my order from them and put the money towards a drink card? Nancy

The only thing is...not all the wines on the wine list offer it by glass.
Texarribean Chick Posted September 11, 2012 #43 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Thanks Sunmist for telling us about it - we are definitely interested. We are beer drinkers and usually buy a bucket of beer. Not so much for the savings; but for the convenience of having another beer when ready. Did you see, or did your drink beers and what was the "rule" on buckets? Can you order 4 at a time, or do you have to wait to be served each beer? Thanks again! Winterstale Posted September 12, 2012 #48 Share Posted September 12, 2012 Just curious - you got your booze confiscated? Did you use the rum runners? We had ours snagged on the Splendor last year as well! I'm guessing this program will make the Magic by the time I sail on 10/21 - and we will DEFINITELY buy it!:D
