When you get to the ship and check in, do they take your luggage and then deliver it to your cabin later? what time would the earliest to check in?

we are flying into LGA sat sept 22nd at 7:30 am and trying to plan our day without waiting at the airport for too long and we would like to see some of the city without our luggage.

 

how far of a walk is it from the ship pier to Times Square?

any opinions/suggestions are appreciated! thanks!

I would imagine that the earliest you could get to the pier in around 9 considering you have to get luggage, into a cab and to the pier. At that time, you world run into passengers still debarking from the prior cruise. They may take your luggage that early but the longshoremen mat still be busy. Times Square is about a mile or less from the pier. The piers are from around 46th Street to 50th Street and 12th Avenue. The streets are short but the avenues are loooooooong. You could easily go to Times Square and back but There isn't a lot to do there. If you are interested in the military, the Intrepid Museum is right at the piers. Macy's is a short as is Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral and the Empire State Building. That should be more than enough to occupy your morning.

If you want to see NYC, come in a day early or stay a day late...I would NOT plan any excursions that are any distance from the ship. Manhattan is so unpredictable...we had to go in to M'tan to Bellevue Hospital yesterday to see my BIL and took our car to a parking garage and it was so backed up that we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes JUST TO GET INTO THE GARAGE to have the attendant park our car. :eek::mad::eek::mad: Just an example of mistakenly thinking: well, we'll just run in and run out...You do not want to miss your cruise! As others have said, Intrepid is right next to you. Do that or take an extra day or 2 if you are interested in seeing the city. It is an awesome place,but as a ps, Times Square is a waste of time (IMO) I pass thru Times Square dozens of times/year and don't even notice it! Have a great cruise!

This is a great time of the year to see the city. If the weather is nice you must do the High Line. It runs on 34th street between 10th and 11th and ends up on West 20th street. You can get off whenever you want. There are some great little restaurants along with way. You might want to google to get exact locations.

It lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains from the streets of Manhattan's largest industrial district. No trains have run on the High Line since 1980.
