Magen's bay from cruise ship

How much does it cost to get a cab to the beach and is it easy to get a return drive?Do they gouge you on the return trip because they know you need to get back to the ship?

About $8 to Magen's and $9 or 10 the East End beaches. No gouging, fares are regulated.

Magens Bay is beautiful. There is a $4 per person fee for this beach. Get there early and beat the crowds. There is a bar/restaurant, bathrooms, gift shop and some non-motorized rentals, loungers available for rent.

Unfortunately you won't beat the crowds because you are part of that, but if you walk a ways further you can get away from the ship crowd. Just a matter of what you are looking for - nice beaches that are busy? Magen's is #1, Lindbergh/Emerald & Coki #2. Less busy? Sapphire and SH are enjoyable.

We were advised to avoid Magen's bay because 4 or 5 ships were in port - having been there before we agreed and decided to taxi over to Emerald Beach resort, our Head Waiter recommended it and it was a great day. No charge to use their pool or facilities, a good bar and casual restaurant. WE even got to watch a wedding. Much nicer than Magen's bay and much quieter.

I think I heard we r the only cruise ship in St.Thomas the day we dock in April.That should make the beaches really nice and not crowded.
