ncl star breaks free and hits explorer

Cruise ships these days have such a large profile that they can become very large sails. Several times I have noticed a degree or two list as a ship sails with the wind on the beam. This is usually noticeable soon after setting sail before turning onto a different course or before trimming ballast.

 

Fortunately for the Star and the Explorer the Star's people were alert and acted swiftly to avert a major issue.
