CarpeCerevisi Posted September 14, 2012 #51 Share Posted September 14, 2012 Cruise ships these days have such a large profile that they can become very large sails. Several times I have noticed a degree or two list as a ship sails with the wind on the beam. This is usually noticeable soon after setting sail before turning onto a different course or before trimming ballast. Fortunately for the Star and the Explorer the Star's people were alert and acted swiftly to avert a major issue.

time4u2go Posted September 15, 2012 #56 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Oh you mean the cable that Royal had been cleared to cruise under? Nice try. Wait...I thought they hit it. Am I wrong? I found links to several news articles saying they did. And what do you mean "nice try"?

aurelius180 Posted September 15, 2012 #59 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Royal ships only hit cables. :D Remember, these are links to articles about a RCI ship hitting a cable, not about the subject of this thread. I took your OP as a joke...maybe I missed something.;)
cruzfitter Posted September 15, 2012 #60 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Oh you mean the cable that Royal had been cleared to cruise under? Nice try. I think Jumbiecruiser is trying to say "not RCL's fault". They were apparently given bad info.
jletsgo Posted September 15, 2012 #61 Share Posted September 15, 2012 On the explorer now. Ncl broke free of dock and hit the explorer at the dock in bermuda. I hope despite all that's going on you have an amazing cruise :)

Aquahound Posted September 16, 2012 #64 Share Posted September 16, 2012 Notice that it always seems to be another CL hitting a Royal ship. Yes! However, it's usually Carnival ships running into RCI ships (and even their own ships). Guess NCL felt left out.

I had that same thought when I saw the story.
