Complainers

I know I complain about the entertainment, service and the food only because I have been on over 29 carnival cruises in my life and each one in the past 10 years has more cut backs, its just disppointment to me, nothing more. I never had a bad Carnival cruise but I had much better cruises where those items I mentioned above were just much better on the other cruise lines.

Yes, Im going back to Carnival to see whether the larger newer ships offer better and more and just maybe they will satisfy everything I expect in a cruise. If not, I probably see RCI or another cruise line next year, but I can't tell yet until I experience the Dream this week. I do expect better than the smaller ships.:o

On the other hand, there's a good chance you aren't paying the same rate for the cruise today as you had 29 cruises ago (likely it's less). If we (society as a whole) want lower fares, we can't expect "Queen Mary" cruises. It's as simple as that. If and when I get tired of Carnival, I'll spend my money else where.

Not many cruise lines offer 1600.00 for two in a Balcony.....Got to expect less when you pay less. Still good to me. My motto is any day above the grass is a good day so go with it.

I agree , we have the Liberty booked Lido Deck $1400 for the 2 of is in 36 days . Tell me where i can get a deal like that for $700 pp walk about 15 feet beer food pool entertainment anf then I have a balcony to relax on anytime we so desire.

oh i say that everyday on that above the grass thing as a cancer survivor I always figure thats a good thing LOL

Ok, I will start this by saying I have only been on one cruise so far, and we will be going on our 2nd in December.

That being said I have done a TON of reading on this site, as a lot of people have a lot of good information to share.

What I don't understand is people who jsut come here to complain. I understand that not everyone has a wonderful time (although personally I don't see how that is possible on a Cruise) but people who continually complain about how people dress, the food, the entertainment, the staff, the rooms....everything under the sun, why do they even cruise?

Nothing is going to be perfect, but why would you let little things ruin your vacation? Most of us wait all year...possibly longer than that to have a vacation, I would never let a bad meal or some rowdy kids ruin my entire trip.

Furthermore, if all you are going to do is bash Carnival....why come here? why waste your time?

....just my thoughts.....

sometimes people who had a terrible time with the vacation will look for some place to vent-- google cruise and this is one of the few places that will show up in your search.

I can tell you that I had a horrible cruise- thank god it was not my first coz if it was i probably would not do it again. It ws so bad that I could not wait to get off that ship-- but I would NEVER, EVER write that here--- just way too many people think because it did not happen to them it could NEVER happen to some one else.

you read many times how people dressing will not affect them but when you are all decked out and a family sits with you looking like they just came from the pool -- it does make you feel uncomfortable. I am sure if they were sitting at another table the thought would be different

If anything I would think it would make them feel uncomfortable, not you....We do Anytime now so we don't have to worry about any other family sitting with us or what they are wearing.

I've been on a number of cruises and although they have not all been perfection, they were pretty close. I think that it's all in the mindset you have going in to the vacation. I look at the glass being half full rather than half empty and I try to pull out the positive in my experiences. I also realize that not everyone looks at things the way that I do. I think that if people have legitimate complaints about any cruise line, hotel, etc. - they should take those complaints directly to the company involved. I know that some people prefer to post their complaints here, but unless there is a cruise line person who is a member and can take care of the complaints, it won't solve the problem to post here.

I am with the people who have the "grain of salt" mentality when reading reviews and complaints. You have to realize that this is the poster's opinion, and what they find acceptable/unacceptable may be just fine with you.

What do you call a complainer about complainers? And which is worse?

Aren't there another dozen or so threads started exactly like this one?

OP:

THIS IS CRUISE CRITIC, a place to state your opinion. Some opinions will be negative.

If you want a Rah-Rah message board with only sunshine and flowers, you are more than welcome to start one and monitor it the way you like :)

People that say that should walk a mile in someone elses shoes first.

Like the lady that is having problems on the Dream now with the plumbing and safe.

Before her cruise she posted to someone else that had a problem on their cruise to just go with the flow or something to that affect since afterall you are on a cruise.

Now she is complaining and not heeding her own advice. It's easy to say when it's not you that has the problems.

As to the people that say a bad day on a cruise is better then a good day at work, I simply say BS.

Just in case you can't tell from my post I had a terrible cruise in February and could not wait to get off either. Hell, I didn't want to get on in the first place but they said if we didn't board we would lose all of our money.

I think some people are such chronic complainers that they feel that it is contributing or being constructive. They have the need to point out what is not right instead of enjoying what is. Give a complainer a twenty dollar note and they will complain that it is dirty, worn or creased.

Some just look at things differently, to some a partly cloudy day is still sunny and to others it is gloomy. I would rather be around those that feel it is sunny.

This first few pages of this (Carnival) forum seem to break down like this:

Helpful Information: 10%

Liquor Smuggling: 20%

Food Is Terrible/Why don't they wear tuxes??: 20%

OMG!! My Perks are gone!!: 20% :(

General Complaints:30% :o

That's a lot of whining and complaining. The helpful stuff falls of the main page quickly since it's not as exciting as reading and posting about everything that is horrible about the cruise line that everyone doing the complaining continues to cruise on!!!
I think that it's all a matter of opinion and perspective. Mine is that of a person who works in transportation on-board services (sleeping car train attendant on long-distance trains in the U.S.A.)Each person has their own expectations and no cruise line can measure up 100% of the time. But having said that...... I started cruising in 1989 when white cloved stewards took your hand bags and escorted you to the cabin when you boarded, a full sit-down lunch was served in the MDR on embarkation day, the Bon Voyage was about throwing streamers and confetti as a jazz band played (not like today's thinly veiled excuse to push booze sales with "Celebration" blaring poolside. And poolside music was background music, not played at stadium concert decibels.

The "complaints" I have seem valid to me beacaue each year I notice more and more cutbacks in food, service, attention to detail, general crew attitude. The cruise lines seem hell bent on dumbing/watering down the actual on-board experience.
I hope you realize that their are cruise lines that will give you more of what you like,at double or triple of what you pay for Carnival

We dont cruise for food or bands, but if that was what we were into we would book a line that is known for good food and good entertainment

Im curious what did you pay for a cruise in 1989? I see $499 7 day cruises when I look now.Im sure 20+ years ago prices were not much cheaper than this and the cost of everything is much more expensive including fuel and food

I dont think anyone can expect prices to stay the same and prices of everything continue to climb. There has to be cut backs somewhere
