cancel early saver and rebook interline

We are booked on the Destiny transatlantic in Feb.

I booked thru a travel agent due to the fact that when I called Carnival they could not find this cruise in the system. But that's another story.

We booked early saver Cat 6a ocean view. I have since found a interline rate for a balcony close to the same price as we paid for OV.

I am getting conflicting responses from Carnival and my agent on switching. I called carnival, they said yes. I called my T.A. he said no. He e mailed Carnival, they said no.

Can I just cancel the cruise and loose the $50 pp and then rebook at the interline rate?

Booked Early Saver, your deposit less $50pp penalty would be transferred to a future (must be different) cruise.

The better question to ask, would be: As Early Saver and as you are eligible for InterLine rates, If the Interline rate for a category above yours drops to your current OceanView ES rate, why can't you upgrade to that higher category. The follow-on question (your situation) is If the Interline rate for a category above yours drops slightly above your current OceanView ES rate, why can't you pay the difference upgrade to that higher category.

You might have to be persistent on this. Post your results?

You should be able to change rooms as long as it is for a higher category.

And once you book ES, you'll always be ES, even if you use the interline rate. Meaning, you can price match against the newer room category.

I recently booked a balcony on ES rate. Switched our cabin to a suite, using the casino rate (paid a small difference for the upgrade).

I was told once you book ES, you're always ES. But now we can only price match for our new cabin, not the original one we booked.

It sounds like your TA doesn't want to do the work to switch you. I'd ask to see a copy of Carnival's response they got when they emailed them.

If Carnival said yes, when you called them directly, I'd try again with your TA before cancelling & all that. It will be just as much work for your TA to cancel you & rebook you, than just switching room categories.

I'd be most interested in hearing this part.

Thanks all for the response. Spoke with carnival again..

So far as stated in your replies.

If canceled we loose the $50 and the remainder canot be used on the same sailing for a new booking.

The interline rate cannot be used with early saver. here is the e mail from Carnival

"Thank you for contacting us. We appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

Your Early Saver price protection request has been denied. We regret to advise that the interline promotion is not combinable with the Early Saver program.

Please visit http://www.carnival.com/cms/fun/earlysaver/default.aspx for Terms & Conditions on exercising a price protection."

We are happy with what we booked. We will watch for a price drop or upgrade.

If it goes low enough we might cancel and book the Sunshine on a transatlantic in November....

Yes - I was worried that was the case - the InterLine rate isn't available to the "general public".

What is interline?????

Here is a list

Interline Rate Eligibility

• The Interline rates are available for the following full-time employees of:

• Passenger Airlines (Excluding charter airlines and non-airline related subsidiary companies of the passenger airlines)

• Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

• National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA)

• Airline PilotsAssociation (ALPA)

• IATA (employees of IATA; not referring to travel agents who are members of IATA)

• Sabre

• TravelPort (formerly Worldspan)

• Amadeus

• Galileo

• Cruise Line Employees - NON-Carnival Corp people

• Amtrak Employees

Note: Carnival no longer offers the interline rate to employees of cargo companies: Federal Express; United Parcel Service; DHL, etc. We are sorry and continue to work with Carnival to request that they reconsider this policy.

• All employees of subsidiaries will be eligible so long as the photo ID of the employee submitted has the branded logo of the company. Also eligible under the interline rates are employees of Cruise Lines, NACTA (National Air Traffic Controllers), FAA (Federal Aviation Admin), IATA, ALPA, Worldspa, Sabre, Galileo, and Amadeus)

• Active employees may receive 2 cabins at Interline rate as long as the employee is in one room and parent, spouse, or child under 21 is in the other. They may book a 3rd cabin at friends and family rate (usually $20-$40 more per person). If the employee is traveling and does not have family eligible for 2nd Interline cabin, they may book theirs and 2 additional at Friends and Family Rate.

• Active employee not traveling? Eligible family members (spouse or parent of employee) may book one cabin per cruise departure, per family.

• Retired Employee? May book 1 cabin and they must occupy this cabin. NOTE-retired employees of non existing airlines do not qualify for interline rates.

Luckycruzer-I have a question about interlines rates. Hubby is currently interviewing for a position with United and the travel benefits are very interesting to me. In general are the cruise (or vacation) rates generally good? Thanks.

Work/CREW ID card..mine has me as "SPOUSE", name and birthdate on the back..I have to FAX copy to my online TA, as well as Carnival w/in 24 hrs.every time I book...a nuisance!!! as it is not saved!!!

Rates are about 10/13/15 % less .. MY "VACATIONS" online prices have an Interline button..and it gives those rates. Aslo I have used it for hotels..some use it some wont..especially good for hotels near the airport. I get I'line rate of Friends and Family(2 kinds of rates there)when he dosent go with me, which he rarely does..if he goes it is the lower rate. Also if he has a DD214 and both of you go..Mil rate is good as well.

If he is hired by airline..he will get an Emp handbook, most likely explaining those privileges.. YOU will be able to get a Buddy type pass, which is Availability/Space Avail...Non-Rev pass holders wait to be called up after ticketed pax have seats. You will have a code, ie: SA 4..that puts you in placement of DH's job. . He might get the private website to show pos and neg seating of all the flights. I have never not gotten to my destination. I always choose to leave my home about 530, A>M> so I have the day to catch several flts. Atlanta is my HUB...I try to do the least amt of stops kind of flt..as sometimes u have to go fetch your bag, and start all over again..with new check in on your 2nd/3rd leg. Delta is pretty good on the onetime check in. your bags/s dont get on board till you have a seat assignment! If you do/fly to Europe cruzes..you shouldnt fly in day of cruise, or other special function. Plan to go 1-2 days prior. East bound is better on leaving your home area early in the day, after cruze is over, you have fewer choices on your West bound/home portion and a lot of them are b4 noon! Check the code share lines as well.. I can fly United-Cont.Delta-American. Ant more questions, please ask..lucky
