Normegian Dawn returns to port

The Dawn sailed on schedule at 3.00 p.m. from Portland, and passed Portland Head Light at 3.25. At 3.40 she turned around and headed back into Portland. I last saw her an hour ago when she was sitting stationary near Fort Gorges. A Coast Guard boat was alongside.

Just saw on AIS that she is underway to Halifax. I wonder if it was a medical emergency?

I'm curious to find out what happened, as we are due to sail on the DAWN next week for the Quebec to Boston trip. I'm hoping that she isn't having any mechanical issues...but at the same time, I'm concerned if it was a medical emergency for the passenger.

Perhaps someone who is on the current sailing may log-in to Cruise Critic and solve this mystery.

  • 2 weeks later...

We've just got home after a 14 day back to back so this happened 2 weeks ago.

It was a medical emergency. An ambulance boat came out to meet us as well as the pilot who returned.

The captain told us at his Q&A the next day that the patient was in a stable condition in hospital.
