marylovestotravel Posted October 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2012 I am an Oceania newbie and am interested in booking more dining reservations once onboard. Does anyone have any knowledge or tips to share? (Reading about the dining venues - I think I gained 50 lbs!!! YUM!)
Rare LHT28 Posted October 8, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2012 It is the luck of the draw You may or may not get extra reservations Go to the Restaurant Reservations deck in the morning & ask if they have any availability that night or put you on the list incase someone cancels On the O class ships the desk is on deck 5 near the concierge On the R class ships go to the Terrace the podium is near the entry by the bar, usually the Maitre'd will be there during breakfast hours If you have a butler get him set up the reservations for you Enjoy
LuAnn Posted October 8, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2012 been able to get extra reservations...but it is the "luck of the draw" and be flexible with dates/times/dining rooms etc. For us...Red Ginger is our #1 pick for additional visits...so we go for them first!!!! Mura Posted October 8, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2012 There are cruises where a fair number of passengers are like us -- not all that interested in the specialty restaurants. Usually we'll just book one per restaurant on an "R" ship, perhaps all four on the "O" ships -- but we most likely won't be looking for extras. (Especially on the "O" ships, Terrace is so fabulous there ...) But then you could be on a cruise where just about everybody wants more reservations ... So as has been said -- luck of the draw. We were offered an extra reservation in Polo on our August cruise on Regatta simply because when the maitre d' asked if everything was perfect, DH told him it hadn't been. (We wouldn't have complained for the sake of complaining, but since we were asked and the problems, while minor, had occurred more than once or twice ... we did.) robbie21 Posted October 9, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 9, 2012 It is, of course, a matter of some luck to get extra reservations. I do have two tips though: 1. Be flexible about dining time and also your willingness to share a table. 2. If all else fails call or visit the restaurant you want at opening time and ask if they have any late cancelations. On a couple of occasions we have joined a group of 6 at an 8 top in Polo and had a wonderful time. You do meet some interesting people on Oceania. calvin81 Posted October 10, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 10, 2012 We had better luck on days where we were late in port as many people dined in port, or just got back later and were tired I guess. One night at Polo we were at a group table and one couple said they were not going to go back to Toscano (I think in a PH they had two in each venue) as they didn't really like Italian cuisine. So we asked if we could take their reservation and walked over to Toscano after dinner and made the switch:). We had better luck being flexible with being willing to dine with others as well.
