Transport from the Ship to the Taxi Stand

I will be cruising with my mother in December, and can't remember whether there is any sort of transportation between the ship and the taxi stand. She can only walk short distances, and we'd like to save her energy for the tour rather than getting from the ship to the taxi stand.

I seem to remember some bicycle driven carriages from last month's cruise to the Western Caribbean, but can't remember if that was in Roatan.

Hey Mike,

It's your favorite dining mate here...

I copied the excerpt from Victor Bodden's email for you:

++ The Port Manager of the Mahogany Bay Cruise Center has negotiated with the on-site Taxi Association to provide transportation, if required, to the Independent Tours meeting area over the hill. The negotiated flat-rate for this taxi service is $2 per person. Please see the Taxi Dispatcher (in the Green Mahogany Bay shirt) to arrange for your group to utilize this service -- tell them that you need transport to Victor Bodden Tours on the other side of the hill. Or, if you'd rather, you can still walk over the hill (approximately 350 yards) to the designated area. ++

I hope this helps...I am still trying to figure out where you would pick up the taxi to get to the other side of the hill. I remember the port but I guess I don't remember the details.

But that is also the same port where that couple was extremely late getting back to the boat. I remember that they did get a golf cart escort from the top of the hill that you can see from the ship all the way to the gang plank. So there must be some sort of transport options.

I remember Cozumel having bicycle driven carriages...I remember the drunk cruisers utilizing that service to get back to the ship.

Funny...the things I remember.

Have a great cruise.

Cheryl

From what I understand the $2 taxi is from the other side of the shops from the ship... this still leaves the fair distance from the ship to the other side of the shops.

If this link works, you have a walk from the dock to number 1 in yellow.

I would suggest the OP make special arrangements, much like people do at airports, to sort transport from the ship to the taxi.

Thanks Cheryl and everyone else! It probably was Cozumel where I saw the bicycle carriages.

I am considering bringing a foldable wheelchair for her, but then what to do with the wheel chair while in port? I'm not worried about the ship because it is rather small (1,200 passengers) and she needs to do some daily walking to keep her doctor and the rest of us happy!

It is quite a walk from the ship to the Mahogany Bay area. I do remember the taxis just outside the gate, so it would be well worth the $2 to the area where Victor Bodden meets us.

When we returned with the Victor Bodden tour, he was able to take us right up the the gate that goes into the Mahogany Bay area.
