Paris in Late August

We're thinking of possibly taking a European cruise that sales 9/1/2013. I wanted to spend several days in Paris after the cruise (cruise ends 9/9) but we have a wedding to attend on 9/13. The other option is to visit Paris before the cruise (approx 8/25 - 8/30). I've always heard that France "goes on vacation" in August and as a result things might be closed. Is that less likely to be the case that late in August?

This is NOT true in Paris...everything will be open.Maybe a Mom and Pop store may close,but you will not have any problems. I am really surprised after all these years this rumor still exists.It will be hot,but doable then.

Thanks Karen, that's what I figured. I imagine we can stand the heat since it will be followed by a cool Norwegian Fjords cruise. :D

A few places will be closed but not much.

 

For example sometimes a few restaurants close and a few other small shops but not much.
