johnami Posted October 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2012 We will be cruising on the Star from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso this January/February. Does anyone have suggestions on shore excursions not to be missed whether with Princess or some other company which can be recommended? I would really appreciate help in this daunting task.
WarEagle76 Posted October 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2012 Some of your ports my be different as our cruise last year was out of Rio, but here is the review I posted which mainly deals with the excursions we took. The Estancia outing in Montevideo was outstanding. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1547920 You might also get more response posting your question on the South America forum: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
WarEagle76 Posted October 24, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2012 Sorry, entered too quickly:eek: Another option is to join the Roll Call for your cruise and possibly join others on a privately booked tour: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
cdngrl Posted October 24, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 24, 2012 patrick watts tour in the falkland islands to volunteer point to see the king penguins. it was the best tour i have ever been on! its a long drive there and back, but so much fun in the 4x4 over the peat bogs. patrick gets all his friends to drive on cruise ship days and you go in a convoy. http://www.falklandislands.com/contents/view/
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 24, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2012 In Punta Arenas I would see the Penguins in Ottway Bay. Truly amazing. Keith

silverjoe Posted October 24, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 24, 2012 Hi Johnami: As suggested, come over and post your interest in our Star Princess roll call, January 30, 2013 roll call. Here is the link. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1501275 People have arranged small group private tours for each port of call, and while many have been filled, I am sure that some are still available. As to the Falklands, use the link previously provided for the Patrick Watts tour. You book individually, and are put into groups. It is what most of us are doing there. johnami Posted October 24, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted October 24, 2012 Thanks SilverJoe. I am new to the Rollcall, but just read through the helpful information. We are a group of friends, around 20, joining this cruise, so we'll have to form our own group.:)
lentlers Posted October 26, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 26, 2012 A great guide in Santiago/Valparaiso is Sergio Kendall. He can cater for groups up to 10 people and is very reasonably priced! contact on skendall@gmail.com
