TWO 7-day cruises booked as ONE 14-day

We booked a 14-day cruise on the Grand this December that is also offered as two 7-day cruises. On these boards I have read that on turnaround day we will have to...

1. leave the ship, clear customs and reboard

2. settle my shipboard account after the first 7 days and start a new account for the second leg.

I realize this may be true for passengers who booked two 7-day cruises as a B2B and may not apply to those who booked as a single 14-day cruise...thus my confusion.

My reason for asking is I have pre-purchased "gifts" of items like Internet minutes, Soda and more cards, etc. and don't want them to go away if unused after the first 7 days.

When I called Princess to order the "gifts" they told me I don't have to get off the ship on turnaround day and my shipboard account will be one account for the full 14 days of the cruise. This information is different from what I've read on these boards.

I would appreciate it if anyone who has booked a cruise like this (one made up of two or more individual cruises) would tell me how it worked for them.

Hi There

Turn around in a US ports means everyone needs to leave the ship,

if you do not want to go ashore they will keep you onboard until the end then you go down flash your passport at some bored looking guy and walk back onto the ship.

Or you can just spend the day ashore and reboard

Your account rolls over but you will have option to settle if you want, on turn around

the last we did this items like internet minutes were treated as a 14 day cruise,

yours Shogun

We booked a 14-day cruise on the Grand this December that is also offered as two 7-day cruises. On these boards I have read that on turnaround day we will have to...

1. leave the ship, clear customs and reboard - We didnt have to on our Diamond Princess cruise B2B (Asia/Alaska), but we did on our Ruby Princess cruise B2B2B (Caribbean/TA/Med)...

2. settle my shipboard account after the first 7 days and start a new account for the second leg. You can elect to have it rolled over into the next leg. See the pursers office if you don't get notification that this will be happening.

I realize this may be true for passengers who booked two 7-day cruises as a B2B and may not apply to those who booked as a single 14-day cruise...thus my confusion.

Internet can be rolled over - go and make sure this happens by going to the internet manager and double checking. Soda cards are only good for the one cruise. You will need to redo it again for the next one, but as they charge this by the day, you will not lose out.

When I called Princess to order the "gifts" they told me I don't have to get off the ship on turnaround day and my shipboard account will be one account for the full 14 days of the cruise. This information is different from what I've read on these boards.

See above :D

We booked a 14-day cruise on the Grand this December that is also offered as two 7-day cruises. On these boards I have read that on turnaround day we will have to...

1. leave the ship, clear customs and reboard If this is a US port on turnaround day, everyone must clear US immigration. If you are not off the ship touring, then you will be given a time and place to meet (probably around 10 AM) and then as a group be escourted off the ship through immigration and, after a short wait, allowed to reboard using your new cruise card. (Even though you booked this as one trip, you will have a new cruise card for the 2nd segment).

2. settle my shipboard account after the first 7 days and start a new account for the second leg. You can have the 1st segment's account transferred over to the second segment. Just check with the Purser's desk to be sure this is set up for you.

I realize this may be true for passengers who booked two 7-day cruises as a B2B and may not apply to those who booked as a single 14-day cruise...thus my confusion. Rules and procedures are the same no matter which way you booked it.

My reason for asking is I have pre-purchased "gifts" of items like Internet minutes, Soda and more cards, etc. and don't want them to go away if unused after the first 7 days. Stop by and speak with the Internet Manager to be sure he/she knows you are on a B2B so he can be sure to xfer your unused minutes to the second segment. For the soda and more cards, if you have paid for all 14 days, I am not sure how this is handled as this is really a sticker on your cruise card. I would verify with the Purser's desk how thisn will be handled. My guess (and it is a guess) is that the cruise card for the 2nd segment will come with the sticker on it. If you purchase a coffee card, they write the voyage number on it. Be sure they know your voyage number is for the B2B (I think it is the first voyage number with an A after it) so you can have the unlimited fresh brewed the second segment. If any problem, ask to speak to a beverage supervisor.

When I called Princess to order the "gifts" they told me I don't have to get off the ship on turnaround day not true and my shipboard account will be one account for the full 14 days of the cruise yes, but verify with purser's desk. This information is different from what I've read on these boards.

I would appreciate it if anyone who has booked a cruise like this (one made up of two or more individual cruises) would tell me how it worked for them.

Have a good cruise.

Thank you both for your quick responses. I don't mind having to get off the ship for a short time and reboarding, but did want to be sure my Internet package and 14-day soda and more card carried over to the second leg of my cruise...and it sounds like it will.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

How does this work in an International port? We are embarking in FLL and starting the second half of our cruise in Copenhagen. Will we have to get off, go thru immigration and reboard? Or can we get off, visit CPH and then reboard without going thru immigration? When will we get our new card or will we? Trying to decide how much time we have in CPH.

You should get your new cruise card the last evening of the TA. You can get off the ship in CPH as soon as the first disembarkating passengers are allowed to leave the ship.

If your port previous to CPH is an EU country, there should be no immigration to go through in CPH.

A station for the elevated part of the CPH subway system in less than a 10-minute walk from the ship.

Related to this is a question I have about Internet minutes.

As a Platinum/Elite member you get 150 minutes for a 7-day cruise and if booked separately would be 300 minutes.

You normally get 250 minutes for a 14-day cruise. If it is really a B2B, would they give you 300 minutes total instead?

Also, don't you start getting onboard credits after 20 cruises?

So what are the benefits for booking a 14-day versus a B2B? Is the fare lower? If so, by how much?

We have done B2B in the past and stayed in the same cabin for both legs.

On our B2B a couple of years ago to Alaska (Vancouver to Whitter, AK and back to Vancouver) we did not have to leave the ship. We had the same cabin on the south bound portion. The only reason we would have had to leave the ship is if we were changing cabins. The Steward delivered our south bound cruise card to our cabin. Some rules may vary with the ship.

There usually is some saving in booking as 1 cruises versus 2 cruises but the amount varies - usually not too great. If you have future cruise credits or stockholder credits it may be better to book as 2 cruises.

You start getting extra credits on your 21st cruise so booking 2 cruises should help toward this. The rule here seams to be not consistant - a couple years ago we did a B2B as 1 cruise and got 1 cruise credit while friends last year did a B2B as 1 cruise and they got 2 credits becomming platnium on the second 7 days.

I can answer part of your question. We booked a B2B cruise on Crown this past year as a 14 day cruise and we are platinum. For Internet, our package option was for 250 minutes for the 14 day cruise. Other than that, we could option to purchase more time if thought we needed it. Dave

The Shareholder OBC for a 14-day cruise is $250 vs $100 for a 7-day cruise. So ahead $50 by booking as one 14-day cruise.

Sounds like other perks like Internet minutes mentioned above are better if booked as two 7-day cruises...so inconsistent.

There was no immigration in Whittier because you had already cleared US immigration when you boarded the ship in Vancouver.

If you were switching cabins, you still would not have had to leave the ship (other than to have your new cruise card activated and the associated picture taken).

If you book a B2B as a single cruise under one booking number, you can get credit for two cruises. Just call the Captain's Circle desk at Princess after the cruise and they will do this for you. Sometimes the Captain's Circle hostess can do this for you on board the ship.

It depends on how they setup your account . We did a B2B2B from LA to Alaska to Vancouver . We only had to clear US customs in Vancouver to continue to Alaska. We where given a time to meet , where escorted of the ship to US customs (not Canadian) and reboarded the ship.
