Papeete 8am Disembark - fly to Bora Bora

Looking for advice and insight on an 8am Marina disembark in Papeete. We are going to fly to Bora Bora that day and are looking for the earliest possible departure time. What should we expect in terms of timing? Thanks.

Depends on how long it takes to claim your bags. There will be taxis at the port. Fare should be around 1500-1800 xpf plus 100-200 xpf per bag. Travel time will be approx 20 mins (even though you're very close to the airport) as traffic can slow you down during the week. On weekends, it's quicker.

FYI: 44 pounds (20 kg) is the inter-island baggage limit per pax. Carry-ons are being weighed and measured now. Here is the link to the Air Tahiti website explaining costs for excess weight

http://www.airtahiti.aero/faq.php?cat=Baggage#56

There are no storage lockers at the airport but there is a secure "left-luggage" place. It's located in the parking lot behind the mama's fare (handicrafts bungalow). Rates are approx 700-800 xpf per bag per day. Not sure of the hours but if you're interested, I can check and get back to you.

Thanks for the offer to look into the luggage storage. They have very good hours. We plan to drop a couple off there to lighten the load. I'm really hoping to make it onto a 9am flight (which would mean getting off ship prior to 7am).

One person said that she was arranging with the ship to disembark in Bora Bora. Don't know if that would work for you.

I can't see how that would work, since BB is not that close to Papeete, and you'd miss a significant portion of the cruise in most cases. Moorea, yes, but not Bora Bora.

Whoops! Sorry about that. My geography of that part of the world is not great. Hopefully after January, it will be better! Yes, indeed, it was Moorea where they plan to disembark early, rather than the next morning in Papeete.

Not sure of the benefit disembarking the ship a day earlier to fly to BB from MOZ. They'll pay more for their ticket departing from Moz (approx US$125 per person), plus they'll have to pay more for baggage weight overage because they won't be able to leave their luggage in PPT.

What cruise are you on? Usually the ship arrives in PPT port from wherever on the evening before the 8 am embarkation time the following day. The earliest flights from PPT to BB leave at around 7 am. Is that the flight departure time you want?

We've seen people leave on AF the night they arrive back in PPT port (this from the Paul Gauguin, not O ships). They had their TA help them organize with Regent (at the time) and also touched base with the Concierge once on board.

The earliest flight to BB leaves PPT around 7 am. Have your TA inform O that you are disembarking at 5:00 am to get to the airport to catch the 7am flight to Bora. That should give you plenty of time to get to the airport, check-in your "left luggage" at the kiosk in the parking lot (you stated you know their hours), check in at Air Tahiti and wait to board the 1st flight to Bora.

Getting cabs at 5 am might be tricky. Destination Services (or maybe the Concierge?) could arrange for a taxi at that hour. Is there a particular reason you need to be on the first flight out? The flight following the first one of the day is usually between 30 mins and 3 hours later, depending upon the day of the week you're flying. You'd be at your hotel in BB by noon, whatever morning flight you take.

Oceania Marina departs Rangiroa at 5pm Apr 17th. Shows arrival in Papeete 8am April 18th. Idea was to be off ship at to airport in manner to maximize time on Bora Bora on the 18th. Oceania has written back that disembarkation will most likely be 9am, so push any desired flights later.

Oh, no Moorea disembarkation choice then and maybe none of the earlier morning flights will work if bags can't be claimed on the dock til around 9am. Currently there is a flight to BB at 1015 and then at 1315 on the 18th. I didn't realize the ship's last port o'call before PPT port was Rangi. You could probably make the 1015 with the original 0800 disembarkation time but not with the 0900 time.

At least you'll be looking at beautiful Moorea while you wait at the gate to take off to BB.
