ATM's

When my husband and I went on our last cruise it was with Carnival and they had an ATM on board in the Casino. I'm sure all ships have them, but can someone confirm that there is an ATM on the Norwegian Jewel.

 

I'm against carrying a lot of cash (for obvious reasons), but want to be able to have access to cash when I get on board. I also understand that Guest Services does not cash personal checks, so that's out!:)

According to NCL's web site, there is an ATM in the casino. You will pay a hefty charge to use it however.

There's one in the casino on the Jewel. Dont use it for small amounts though. The charge on the Gem last month was $5.50 plus whatever your bank charges. I'm guessing the Jewel would be the same.

The only problem with that plan is that sometimes ATM's run out of cash and are not replenished as often as they should. I normally carry all cash (on board account on a CC) split up between DW and I.

 

The only time I've used an ATM was when I was too lazy to go back to the cabin.

You can bring cash or travelers check (that might be cheaper than paying $5+ to access the ATM) and deposit them in your On board account when you board.

I'm thinking she is talking spending money. FWIW, I hate traveler's checks as they are a PITA and not readily accepted in other places (the Bank I work at quit selling them due to the large amount of fraud / forgery.

Cash/Traveler's Checks Procedures

You can deposit cash or US Traveler's Checks into your onboard account. To start, US$100 per person per day is required, although more can be deposited depending on what you plan to spend. If you don't have enough money down to cover expenses, your account(s) will be closed and you cannot purchase anything until more money is deposited. You can deposit as much money as often as you'd like throughout the cruise, however, refunds cannot be made until the day of disembarkation for any excess. US Traveler's Checks can be cashed onboard and are the same as cash.

**Personal checks will not be accepted, nor can they be cashed onboard.

You're right, it could happen. On the Gem last month the ATM wasn't working for a couple of days. They allowed you to withdraw cash against your shipboard account and waived the 3% service fee until it was fixed.

New to cruising, but if I just read that right for my family of 3 on a 7 day cruise, I'm going to have to put $2100 down for OBC?!? I'm about to have a heart attack! That's more than I paid for the entire cruise! Someone please tell me I am all wrong!!!

Thank you...I assumed there would be an ATM on board, but wanted to double-check. I wasn't talking about the on-board account, but just having the availability of obtaining cash if we needed it. We love to play in the casino and wanted to be sure we could access cash for that and for shopping at the different ports.

so what I think you could do is ask for a greater amount than ur playing. Get the chips, leave them in your pockets and exchange them for cash at the end.

 

when the cruise ends, just run your credit card

hey hey, im in the roll call for the 24th. will try to make it. last year i was in the haven and wasnt able to get up pillowtop bed :) this year ill try my best to go.

That doesn't sound quite right but if you are planning cash, I'd call and check. I personally don't know and didn't know what their stated policy was since all I do is a credit card also. That sounds like a lot as I drink a lot on a boat and there is no way someone could spend that kind of money for a family of three.

 

I know this subject has been beat up here in CC so you might search as well.

We put down cash for our last cruise and it was nowhere near that much to start. WE kept adding to it, but we haven't been told we had to put down a specific amount for any of our cruises. Things can change from day to day though...

A couple years ago we tried to use atm on board but it kept getting some message which when i checked with head cashier she said it's probably not receiving signal, it happened to use twice on two different ships so I've given up using them on board when needed.

Snaiks - that's all I needed to read. As someone mentioned in an earlier post that sometimes the connections are messed up, it's best to bring cash and that's what we will do. We will have our credit card for the onboard account, but cash for shopping in the ports and for use at the casino. Thanks so much everyone for your help and advice.

Do what most people do: bring a credit card for your on-board account and for purchasing expensive items onshore. Cash and travelers checks for other shopping in port. Lock cash in your safe when not using it.
