I originally booked a Deluxe Owners Suite (S2) on the Pearl. A few weeks after booking the Pearl was chartered but instead of canceling the cruise, NCL said the Jewel would do the itinerary. Since the Jewel doesn't have a DOS they upgraded us to the Garden Villa (S1). I've heard under normal circumstances, NCL won't upgrade people to a GV.

 

That is the exact situation we have for our 3/24/2013 we booked the DOS on the Pearl and when it got chartered NCL moved us to the GV on the Jewel.

The garden villa is really set up for a large group of people. The living room has seating for 8-10, the indoor and outdoor dining rooms each seat 8 and the upstairs sundeck had two tables, 8 chairs and about 10 lounge chairs (and a hammock).

 

I would never book the room for two people (it was an upgrade) but it costs about the same for 6 people in a garden villa as it does for 6 people in three haven suites.

 

I'm curious what category you were booked in before the upgrade. And also how much did the upgrade cost?

We originally booked a DOS (S2). The reason we were upgraded is because they changed ships (from the Pearl to the Jewel) and the Jewel doesn't have a DOS. There was no extra charge.

Now THAT is an upgrade. The mother of all upgrades :)

 

I did not win the powerball this weekend, so I will have to wait to book this suite :(
