Celebrity Century For Sale?

Hi. Apologies if this has already been mentioned but just seen this on another website and I thought it might be of interest.

On a list of cruise ships for sale, there is one that seem to fit Celebrity Century:

http://www.shipseller.net/details.php?id=3215

A ship of approx. 72,458 GT, registered in Malta, built in 1995, built by Meyer. Seems to be Century.

Again, sorry if this has already been posted. :)

Well, Celebrity is the operator who leases the vessel from Blue Sapphire Marine.

Although probably Blue Saphire is linked to RCI and created for tax purposes, this advert does sound like the Century.nWhich other ships were built by Meyer in 95?

According to Wikipedia, Century is the only one. Looks like it is definitely Century then.

The link in the OP's post says the ship holds 2250 passengers while Celebrity's website says 1800-something. I suspect the higher number represents all berths (and/or crew facilities?) filled while the lower number is for double occupancy?

Poof! Gone!

Someone on Cruise Critic must have bought the ship when they saw the listing posted!

How strange!

Maybe they saw this thread and have been asked to take it down or something. Very odd.

Googled it and you can still see it there, just. Second result on the page:

First one on the list is Carnival Fantasy, second Celebrity Century, third is Statendam from HAL.:eek:

This might well be a sale-lease back effort, something that is done very frequently both in Aviation and Shipping. No need to get hysteric just yet;)

Anyone have any idea or care to speculate, if its not a lease-back & the Century sells this year, will they cancel all her future cruises or honor what has been booked at least for 6 months to a year?

Have booked a family cruise & will book another soon on her for 2013 & if they are cancelled, I must start looking around quickly for alternatives... :(

Seems the cancelling of the drydock in April/13 now makes much more sense than needing more time to plan it - thought that one sounded 'fishy'!! :/

Thanking you very much in advance... :)

My memory was faulty, it was the Millennium that was listed for sale. I THINK it was on the same website but that thread's original posting was deleted, so I can't tell for sure. Anyway, if you do a search here on Cruise Critic for "Millennium for sale" you'll find that thread. And as we know, it didn't happen.

I go with the idea that it's a sale/lease-back scheme, as proposed above.

It is more likely that when the time comes, the Century will go to one of the European (or maybe Asian) subsidiaries of RCCL, as have several of the others Century class ships have gone.

Not so clear, especally wth the recession. Too upmarket for Pullmantur, CDF will have enough with Horizon and Zenith and STX Finland has just announced that TUI Cruises has confirmed their option for another newbuilding. So either it stays with Celebrity or they sell it out of the fleet (Thomson Platinum?)

On the Thomson forum we've been discussing the possibility of Century going to Thomson. There have been rumours that Thomson are looking at new ships as they are looking at a rebrand. Century would be a good option as, if TUI eventually offload its Mein Schiff 1 & 2 to Thomson, having Century already would fit.
