Looking for specific item in port-guitar

Hi everyone!

First time cruising in two weeks, on Freedom of the seas- Western Caribbean.

 

I saw in a few pictures on trip reports of a small looking guitar at these little shops in the port area. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Can you tell me how much they are? Are they functional?

There are an awful lot of ports in the Western Caribbean. Maybe post a picture of what you are looking for in the appropriate Ports of Call Forum?

are you talking about a ukelele? Most common in Hawaii. The $25-30 ones are just toys. For tourists.

 

Google them and see there are about 6 diff varieties, can cost up to $1000.

 

Saw decent ones for $80-100.

It's very hard to say what you're looking for without a picture... there are many varieties of guitars. Since you said it was western Caribbean I'm assuming mexican regions, where the ukelele is not common.

 

Perhaps you are looking for a Requinto.

Cozumel! The shopping area around the port is rather pricey. Go downtown to the shopping strip and people will be more than willing to bargain more!
