helpthejuggler Posted November 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 23, 2012 Anyone received an invite to the ship tour, reception and lunch on 13 December?
violetta58 Posted November 23, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 23, 2012 Yes,we did and I would love to go despite having sailed on the QV a few times but I cannot afford the £300 minimum donation for 2 people. I do think they should set the price lower and have raffles or auctions at the event to raise more money.
helpthejuggler Posted November 23, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted November 23, 2012 It is quite pricey for a ship tour with lunch, even for a good cause. At the moment we are not sure if we would go. Add in a day off work also and it looks less likely. Wonder who the distinguished guest will be?

Edited to add: The website http://www.princes-trust.org.uk/about_the_trust/in_your_region/south_of_england/london_and_the_south_east/events/queen_victoria_event.aspx does not state how much of the donation actually goes to the Prince's Trust - or maybe I missed something? violetta58 Posted November 24, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 24, 2012 Hi Yes I think it does from what the Cunard says although they probably will need to cover the cost of the lunch. I think it is too much to expect people to pay in a recession as well as a day off work as already said.It is a brilliant charity though.
QM2 fan Posted November 24, 2012 #9 Share Posted November 24, 2012 We also received the invite- and much as I would like to see QV, I think 150 quid is too much- agree with the idea for auction/raffles onboard instead....
ovccruiser Posted November 24, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 24, 2012 Looks as though Cunard may have shot themselves in the foot over this one, £300 is a tad pricey for lunch, even for a 5*(ish) hotel
Pjran Posted November 25, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 25, 2012 I was so pleased when I opened the invitation then checked diary, nearly rang husband so he could arrange day off. THEN I read the cost, bit steep for us for a nice lunch out. I agree with those of you suggesting Cunard arrange an auction or raffle to raise funds. However, I feel Cunard have a wealthy clientele and all spaces will be taken just not by us.

We're embarking the QV on the 13th and it's a Thursday. Maybe they've invited the Duchess for the wrong day !
Salacia Posted December 1, 2012 #14 Share Posted December 1, 2012 That's strange. We're embarking the QV on the 13th and it's a Thursday. Maybe they've invited the Duchess for the wrong day ! Oh my, that would create a bit of a stir, wouldn't it? Here's another press release from Cunard that also gives the date as Tuesday, 13 December http://www.financialpost.com/markets/news/Duchess+Cornwall+Visit+Cunard+Line+Queen+Victoria/7629949/story.html staygulf, Cunard should thank you for catching their apparent error.:) BTW, I noticed this quote "This will be the third occasion Her Royal Highness will have visited the ship. She will be escorted aboard by Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line, and Captain Peter Philpott, master of Queen Victoria. The ship’s crew will line the three tiers of the Grand Lobby when The Duchess arrives, while embarking passengers will line the tiers for her departure" http://www.etravelblackboardasia.com/article/87969/hrh-the-duchess-of-cornwall-to-visit-cunard-lines-queen-victoria Cheers, -S. glojo Posted December 10, 2012 #17 Share Posted December 10, 2012 Duchess of Cornwall, I fear she rates at the same level as Lord Prescott... Cunard would have to pay me to attend any type of event where these two human beings are present. Each to therir own and respect to all those that are attending this charitiable event. Salacia Posted December 15, 2012 #19 Share Posted December 15, 2012 Hopefully, the event raised money for a good cause. For those interested, here is a photo of the portrait of Duchess Camilla that will be on display in the Grand Lobby of QV: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-20709420
