manmachine Posted November 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2012 I live down here and am biased. But Hollywood Beach is great. Seminole Hard Rock or Gulfstream Park and Casino. Dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse. lots to do...
Ykgorbie Posted November 25, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 25, 2012 South Beach is great for people watching ! If you're renting a car, how about a drive down the Keys? And if you don't want to rent a vehicle and depending on where you're staying, the water taxi is a great way to get around. Lots of stops in many different areas - great to get to and from the nightlife.
familyfuncruise Posted November 25, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 25, 2012 We will be arriving early too. We will be staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites, hopefully we can ride the water taxi....sounds like fun!

Mikel1733 Posted November 25, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 25, 2012 The water taxi is a lot fun. Seeing all the yachts and homes is very interesting. The crew will narrate the trip so you know more about the area. Interesting both day and night.

tattoos Posted November 25, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 25, 2012 Why face all that traffic to drive to South Beach? Fort Lauderdale's beach is beautiful...funky restaurants across the street from the beach including Bubba Gumps. Dania Jai-Alai is in Dania Beach, a 5 minute ride from Fort Lauderdale (sit close to the action for a few dollars, lots of excitement, amazing skills and you may even win a few dollars). The humungous Sawgrass Mills Outlet Mall is in Sunrise, Florida (15 minute ride from the beach area)....you can spend all day here if your love shopping...nice Cheesecake Factory. The Sawgrass Recreation Park is in Weston, Florida (20 minutes from the beach area)...airboat rides thru the wild Everglades (gators will be out sunning themselves), reptile exhibit...evergladestours dot com If you go to Jai-Alai, Jaxsons Ice Cream Parlor is also in Dania Beach and is FANTASTIC!!! They make all their ice cream and toppings from scratch and sell a nice assortment of old fashioned candy (sugar buttons on paper, Mary Janes, licorice, wax bottles filled with sweet liquid, big red wax lips, and some hard to find candy). Order the kitchen sink and share...the butterscotch and hot fudge are killer. Jaxsonsicecream dot com The Broward Center for the Peforming Arts is an outstanding entertainment venue in Fort Lauderdale...there is always somethng amazing being offered, it is beautiful and very close to the beach. browardcenter dot org
ragtiki2004 Posted November 25, 2012 #9 Share Posted November 25, 2012 You could always check out a baseball game at the new Marlins stadium. They need all the fans after selling off 1/2 of their team. Believe your sailing is in May so they might have a homestand. Bob:)
ragtiki2004 Posted November 25, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 25, 2012 OOPS! I read the wrong date for your sailing. Take the water taxi instead and check out the homes that are all decorated for Xmas. It is breathtaking. Bob:)
Putterdude Posted November 26, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 26, 2012 We have always enjoyed the water taxi and the Jungle Queen. The Sun Trolley can also be a good way to get around. What we have never found is a tour of the area.
ragtiki2004 Posted November 26, 2012 #12 Share Posted November 26, 2012 Check out ducktours. A little corny but they show you around the Fort Lauderdale area downtown and the boat goes into the intercoastal. Bob:)

piper28 Posted November 27, 2012 #14 Share Posted November 27, 2012 Nobody's suggested it, so I'll suggest visiting the Everglades. A walk along the Anhinga trail that time of year can be pretty neat.

You can see all the addison mizner style homes, visit mizner park for shopping or dinner. Visit the art museum, or one of the beautiful beaches. I would highly recommend a trip to Gumbo Limbo which is a sea turtle rescue center. You can also head west and take a airboat tour of the everglades. Yes very true... but I have seen plenty of snow birds swimming in December and January. Water temps are usually in the low 70's during that time. CharismaCruiser727 Posted November 28, 2012 #23 Share Posted November 28, 2012 South FL is nearly a 'nonstop party'. There is much to do that appeals to all likes and demographics.

Water temps are usually in the low 70's during that time. Not this year, and next. The Gulf water temperature here in SWFL is now 67, and it will probably be around 62-64 in December and January. Ft. Lauderdale may be about 1-2 degrees warmer vis-a-vis water temperatures.
