I am sorry, but just catching up with this. What is the total cost for a 7 night cruise per person? And if I am reading right, it gives you 15 "fun" drinks, unlimited sodas and frozen mocktails?

about 350 pp

My biggest complaint was that the servers all share in the same tips. There is no incentive to hustle or to return to you (for more drinks or to bring your receipts) because they will get the same tips either way? We did additional tips of course to those that did hustle, but if you only brought me one drink all week & didn't bring me receipts & I've already paid Carnival the 15% why am I adding more? The rumor onboard was that the ship was 500 staff short, I'm assuming a big part of that was bar service staff.

I find it hard to believe that Carnival in their infinite wisdom and computer services that are available to them, cannot key in a server's number and give them the correct portion of their tips. OK, somebody is going to have more that 15 frozen drinks in a 24 hr period (I doubt it) but others are not going to fulfill that quota.

I hardily discourage this practice and for the folks that are getting their moneys worth I hope that Carnival will see that the bar staff should get their fair share that they have earned.

When I was on the liberty last March (months before cheers) I asked one of our bartenders about the grat on each drink and was told that they pool their tips.

for a cabin of 2, it's a hundred bucks a day. so 700, BUT, you can buy it on the second day and pay 600 and pay out of your S&S account for the embarkment day (bad idea since I drink the most the first day).

and here's the full list:

Currently Available On

(last list update 12/31/2012)

Carnival Breeze

Carnival Conquest

Carnival Dream

Carnival Freedom

Carnival Glory

Carnival Legend

Carnival Liberty

Carnival Magic

Carnival Miracle

Carnival Pride

Carnival Splendor

Carnival Valor

Carnival Victory

I think the other list missed a few like the freedom

bar tenders and bar waiters are two different jobs. Bar tenders -pool their tips bar waiters do not.

it works to the bar tenders favor to pool their tips-- some bars are not as busy as others-- they also rotate jobs.

Does anyone know if you get charged for the last 'day'? We are booked on a 4 night cruise which ends at 7am on the 5th day. Would we get charged 4 days or 5 days for this program?

yes, you get charged the embarkation day as well as the disembarkation day

basically you are charged per night.

a 7 night cruise leaving and returning on a sunday will pay 50 x 7

you should be charged for 4 days, as there's really no bar service on disembarkment day (the program runs from 6am to 6am the next morning, so you'd be paying for 6am till you got off the boat at 7 or 8). So you would pay for embarkement day, but not disembarkement day.

IE you pay for each NIGHT of the cruise. In my case, I embark Sunday, and disembark Saturday (technically 7 days, but 6 nights), I'll pay for 6 days (Sun 6am-Sat 6am).

Serene, That is not true , you do not get charged for the disembarkation day. They are doing 4 nights, so they are charged 4 days .

if they are either across the hall or next door you can book your kids in their own cabin- unless one of those kids are not your own.

You will not be able to book the 9 year old in a cabin with the 22 year old.

You should NOT had the problem with booking the 2 boys in their own cabin.

(where was it located compared to yours?)

Boys that age don't have to have a cabin any where near their parents as long as their parents are on the ship. They can even be on a different deck.

The 9 year old could have been booked with the 22 year old, but they would have to have the cabin next door or accross the hall.

Looking at the cheers beverage program it states:

Program does NOT include the following:

  • Non-alcoholic beverages other than soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails.

Does that mean soda is included in this package?

Also can someone tell me if this package is available on the Valor?

Unlimited soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails included. All other non-alcoholic beverages are not included. Not sure about Valor.

The Program state's "The program "day" is a 24 hour period starting at 6:00AM and ending at 6:00AM the following day." So I doubt they charge you on disembarkation day.

It also state's "On embarkation day or the next day: You can sign up at the Atrium Bar, Casino Bar or one of the Lido Deck bars." I'm not sure if that means they will retro charge you for the first day but it doesn't say that they will.

We have a 4 night cruise coming up and the last day is a day at sea, but the rest are in ports. Could we buy this card for the at sea day only?

No, it must be purchased on either day one or day two, but it really does not matter because it's currently only available on 13 ships in the fleet and I believe that none of those 13 ships sail any 4 day itineraries. See post #28 for the current list

This is on the Miracle as well isn't it?

Yes, it's on the Miracle.

  • 10 months later...

Forgive me if this has been answered but isn't the Cheers program ALSO your S&S card? do you mean you have to tell the bartender to NOT put it on the cheers program?

Also, if I order a bucket of beer I see that isn't covered under the cheers program. So that means it doesn't go against my 15 drink limit, correct??

In theory, you would tell the bartender you want to buy someone else a deink and not put it on the cheers program, and you will be charged the individual drink price, plus tip... This is what I was advised in an email from the VP of beverage operations, however, some have posted that they were not allowed to do this at all... so not sure this happens the same on all ships or all bartenders..

You are not allowed to buy a bucket of beer when on the cheers program. As you can only buy one drink at a time.. However, again, if you are saying you are buying a bucket for someone else, you might be able to pay for it seperate outside of cheers, but again, I think that will depend on the ship and the bartener..

The program has been administered differently on different ships that I have been on, so I dont know if anyone can tell you factually how it will work for you.. I have used it twice, and it was different each time.. I was on two different ships..

What is the break-even point? If I were to order 5 drinks a day, am I better off to just pay for them? 6? 7?

Do you find service more attentive if you just pay for the drinks? Or do you think it makes any difference?

I am sailing solo for 8 nights on the Breeze 2/1. I don't plan to get off in any ports (may change my mind). This is just a relax, read, watch the ocean, mental health escape. Since I only have to pay for one person, I'm considering the "Cheers" option. All the feedback helps a lot - thanks!
