You have a cabin on the flat of the hump. If you go almost to the end of page 27 you will see links to most of the pics. Click on the link to 7280. If you look at the deck plan for Silhouette on the Celebrity website you will see that this balcony is very similar to yours, just on the other side of the ship. 7266 is another example but it is on the end and yours is not.

The hump cabin balconies are considerably larger than regular sized balconies although some people feel their view is obstructed because they can't see around the corner of the flat.

The lifeboats are not considered an obstruction by Celebrity, although many on the boards would agree with you. That's why a lot of folks choose cabins on higher decks to minimize the view of the lifeboats.

The footstools come with concierge class rooms only.

Hope this helped a little.

Nancy

Hello Cruisetrail,

Thank you so much for this thread. You are amazing! We are cruising on December 15th on the Silhouette and trying to decide between cabin 8253 or 9264. We have the 1A catagory and do not want to be near smoking areas and am okay with lifeboats below. We have had the misfortune of being next to rude families in the past and I thought since 8253 was between two cabins that only had a trundle we might be okay. There are other cabins available but we prefer to be mid or forward in the ship and not too high because of the movement. We are also concerned that the hump cabins may not give us enough sun.

What do you think? Thanks for any help.

Andrea

Is this in response to my post? I thought the lifeboats were considered a partially obstructed view.

You are correct--2C's obstructed by smaller lifeboats--and 2D's more obstructed by the larger "tender" lifeboats.

Celebrity does consider them obstructed.

I'm either a 2A or a 2B....so it's not supposed to be obstructed at all.

This is a pic of 9209 Reflection one deck up from Silhouette 8253- we had lots of sun and never smelled smoke from the smoking area on deck 5(port) below. It has the largest balcony being third off the hump with 9264 having the next largest. You would enjoy both I'm sure! Happy sailing !

We and our friends are booked on the Silhouette next May in cabins 6246 and 6248. I've done an extensive review of this thread and can't find specific info on whether the "partial obstructions" are any issue for these 2 cabins. Any info, and photos, would be very much appreciated!

Thanks very much. We know we're above the lifeboats, not the tenders, so no problem looking out. We are concerned about the davits, and hoping that we selected cabins that don't have them in front of the balconies.

Hi all

I hope someone can offer some insight. We booked a guarantee balcony and initially were thrilled to see we had been allocated a 2B room number 6129 for our first Celebrity cruise (Silhouette). Just a little concerned now as it appears to be above the theatre and the smoking area on promenade deck. Can anyone offer some reassurance or tell me if i might need earplugs! Unfortunately the chances of moving appear non existent as all standard balconies are sold out.:o

This thread is amazing. :)

I am looking at the Celebrity Silhouette:

If I book a category 2C cabin, which one would be best and why?

I understand the reasoning for room above/below, but the rate difference between 2C and other category is huge (with a special promotion), so if I must stay in 2C, what would be the best option?

Is smoking a problem? Where can people smoke on this ship? Is it the entire deck 5 or one side of the ship?

Thanks in advance for your help!

In my opinion, yor best bet would be to go with a cabin that is located above a restaurant. Avoid being over any bar, casino etc.

Smoking is only allowed on the port side. Try gettting one on the starboard side.

Actually, where one can smoke is EXTREMELY limited--there is a small area on the pool deck (Deck 12) on the port side near cabins 2101, 2103, etc. Smoking should not affect ANY of the 2C cabins. In fact, last year, on Eclipse, we had 2111 and had no issues from smoke in the cabin or balcony...Only when we exited onto the pool deck on that side of the ship...

The deal with 2C cabins is THIS: Most of the 2C cabins have a lifeboat which tops out about floor level, so you see it when looking down from the balcony. But, if you are at the ENDS of the lifeboat, you will have the stanchions--the supports--which are higher--extending to around the height of the railing, though you may have a little extra view down between the lifeboats... The 2Cs at the far aft of the ship, beyond the last lifeboat have the roof of the deck below extending out--still can't look down, but some find the blue roof less obtrusive than the orange lifeboats. It all depends on what you find more important...

Cruisetrail,

I've enjoyed this thread and learned a lot. I was wondering if you have a theory, from an engineering point of view, why the S Class ships were designed with a narrow superstructure, necessitating the large overhang and views of lifeboats for non-hump balconies?

Aesthetically, I think the exterior design of the S Class ships is strikingly beautiful. But taking into account your criticisms, I wonder why the ships were designed this way.

We have booked Celebrity Suite 1235 for the Eclipse Nov. 3 trans-Atlantic. This will be our first suite on Celebrity. I have printed all Celebrity Suite photos on an early page here.

Does anyone have any info about a true make-up desk for my DW? All I have seen is the small table on the outer wall of the bedroom. If this is all there is, she will be disappointed.

I am beginning to wonder if we should change to a HAL TA on the Noordam.

Thanks.

You might want to consider one of the M Class ships. The Celebrity Suites have a huge walk-in closet in the bedroom with a large dressing/make-up table and bench. My mouth fell open when I saw it, it was that awesome. :p

I was in a Royal Suite on Equinox last year and although the main bathroom was uber huge, there was only a small make-up table area in the bedroom which was rather disappointing in a suite that large. I did a cabin crawl and toured a Celebrity Suite and yes, I believe the only make-up table is the one you referred to being in the main living area and I know they don't have the big closet like on the M Class ships.

Hope that helps.

Barb
