HELP! Need Trip Cancellation Advice

Was planning on an end of January cruise, trip has been paid in full. Sadly my husband had a bad accident and now we will not be able to attend. Thank goodness for trip insurance! However this trip was to include our best friends (husband & wife) who we booked with at the same time, have rooms side by side. Princess is saying while we can get a full refund, due to my husband's accident, our friends can not and are still required to go on the trip without us.

We'd be willing to postpone our trips to April or May if Princess would allow, but it sounds like there is very little room for compromise. Anyone out there with experience and advice in this area?
