Sydney airport transfers

We are b2b on Solstice in March, when we return to Sydney our flight to Honolulu does not depart until 9:20 PM . Nobody at Celebrity seems to know if they will offer the extend your stay program that they do in Europe, the one shore excursion that offers an airport drop off leaves the ship at 8:30 and drop off at the airport is 12:30

Anyone have a similar problem or ideas.

Or - alternatively, what we have done before, is take a private tour that drops you off at the airport. That way you can take the luggage with you.

Not sure what day of the week you are disembarking but I know travellers contact point at the Dymocks building is closed on Sundays, only open 10 - 4 on Saturdays and closes at 6 pm other days.

Hi rkmw

Another person from (comparatively) our approximate part of the world. The transport we take varies with what we are doing - if we are flying internationally and the flight is late afternoon we nearly always go by Murrays as we can be dropped off at the international terminal. We can do it for about $50 one way for both of us. If it is a short trip sometimes we will drive to Sydney or even rent a car and drive down (We used to do this when we had one or other of the children with us). If the flight is early we might bus it down on the day before and stay over either in the city or at the airport.

We have only done a few cruises out of Sydney - most times we fly overseas to pick up the itinerary.

Last time we flew but the time before we went Murrays into the city.

This time we will probably go by bus as there is no real hurry to board - the ship is there overnight.

BTW when flying overseas we find it better to fly back from Sydney as we are tired and 3 hours on a bus is a bit of a pain. Sometimes we stay over for a night or two as well (like we did on the Radiance weekend cruise).

Our distance from Sydney means it is pretty convenient for us. What's your train connection like?

the train service is not the best, they have a train at 1.30am from Coota which is too inconvient and another one at 2.30pm which we normally catch and spend the night in Sydney and on the return the evening train gets into Coota at 1.30am so we stop the night in Sydney and catch the day train and get home at lunch time

if we are doing a cruise up to 2 weeks we drive up to Campbelltown and leave the car there and drive home after the cruise

when we moved here a few years ago Greyhound had a bus service but it wasnt paying so they cut it out

It's funny (or not) when we look at train travel in Australian and compare it to the UK or Europe (and yes, the population base is entirely different). DH's cousin from the UK was here a few years ago and insisted on taking the train from Sydney to here. They got quite a shock! We use trains extensively when in Europe or UK.

It looks like you do not have to change trains at least, being on the main Sydney - Melbourne line. The afternoon train is not too bad although it does necessitate an extra night each end of the cruise. I think 1.30 am would be a bit of a stretch for me!

Back to the OP - is the flight the same day you disembark? You could try and change the flight to the next day and stay overnight with a late checkout.

That reminds me - someone did post about day rooms in Sydney. That's another thing to look at. I remember there were a few hotels that did offer it, depending on how busy they were.
