Navigator - current Captain?

I don't mean for this to sound rude....but I am just curious as to why you want to know!!...won't you be cruising regardless of who is "steering" the ship :D

There are all sorts of reasons....

Some people like to attend the Captain's welcome aboard party, or the Captain's Q and A session onboard. These events can be quite varied in interest level and in fun factor depending upon which captain is hosting it.

Some captains give more informative, or funnier, noon update announcements, while others are garbled, hard to understand, and uninteresting. Some are more formal, others are more relaxed, which has a trickle down effect on the crew and affects the overal atmosphere onboard

Some captains attend functions, such as Crown and Anchor events, while others don't. Some are a more visable, more personable, more approachable presence around the ship. This adds to the cruising experience for some people.

Some captains are great at emcee-ing shows in the theatre (ie: dynamic stage presence or fun personalities) which some cruisers appreciate.

Some captains command a greater respect from their crew members: happier crew equals better and more friendly service.

And, some captains have proven themselves as experts in cruising under adverse conditions, and were highly communicative and informative during these issues. For example, we sailed around hurrican Irene in 2011 with Captain Zini...he kept us well informed of itinerary changes, sea conditions, etc. Plus, we hardly felt any movement, etc

Some people just want to know ahead of time, not because it matters, but because it gives them something to consider while waiting for their cruise...sort of building their pre cruise anticipation by finding out little tidbits like this.

Gotcha...I could see where that info would be important to some...Have to say I have been on about 15 cruises and never once cared about who the captain was ahead of time. Just me :).....

According to the current captains thread, maintained by wolfcathorse, Captain Frank Martinsen will be the captain for your sailing on Navigator next week.

We sailed aboard Voyager OTS out of Venice, Italy with Captain Martinsen in summer 2011. He did a great job with announcements, was very visible with passengers, and seemed to be well respected by the crew. It was made clear that he did not want to shake hands with passengers due to sanitary reasons and to prevent the spread of norovirus, however he seemed very personable. He normally ate breakfast every morning in Portofino and would often say hello. If you are sailing with Captain Martinsen, you should be in good hands. :)

The elbow bump is the new handshake on most ships now.

I just sailed with him a couple of weeks ago on the Liberty. You are right about the announcements and shaking hands. Every day when he makes his announcement at noon he would stress to wash your hands etc.

Was on Navigator transAtlantic and thought Captain Claus was excellent but the best ever was Capt Rune Locking who was Captain on Radiance. We did a Caribbean sailing and before that the Panama canal with him. He seem to inspire respect from passengers and crew. His noon broadcasts were both informative and often hilarious. Does anybody know what happened to him
